I think your are overstating the disadvantage but, I will look into it.
My fear is the games being turned off again somehow. I lost HL1 due to something I did and wonder still how and why. Apparently they updated HL1 at least once.
/me will connect now and see, just as soon as I figure out how to disable auto-updating.
If you are wrong, I will stick my finger into your avatars eyes.
[edit]
Something is wrong. HL1 isn't even in my list of Steam games, yet I used to do critiques for HL1 all the time. Even after Steam.
Now I have to sort out why.. And I cannot fine "Auto-Update" anywhere.

I worded that thing oddly, didn't I? My apologies.
I suppose it'd be more accurate to say that when there is no new creative content, the only thing that's left is the normal bickering. Not exactly a lucrative aspect, I think. That's also probably why more people are becoming agitated with it now. Maybe it hasn't increased or become worse or anything like that ... but nothing else seems to happen in the last year or so.
I'm curious, about steam, does anyone elses (almost regularly upon updating games) NOT update the games. There are times where I open steam, it begins to update the games ... then they all sit there at 0% for a week. I usually have to delete all the GCF files ... actually install them with the HL2 DVD I regrettably bought, then update those ... which seems to work. It's annoying as hell, and I can't find anything discussing it. I imagine it's because their servers are so packed ... but, that doesn't make it any less annoying.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Crono, I am not sure if this is relevant, since I do not update often but, twice today I shut the net off to check for missed calls... Yeah, that 56k thing again. Well anyway, upon reconnection, one out of two times, I had to pause the download, and restart it. The other time, it just took right off and downloaded.
Perhaps, you should pause and restart it as well..
Just a thought.

Do you honestly think I'd delete a 2 GB file and re-download it if I didn't try pausing it and restarting and logging out and back onto steam?
Thanks for the suggestion, in any case, but yes, I tried it, nothing would resume the downloads. As for right now, everything is running alright.

I just noticed that my "Lost Coast" is being updated. I already played Lost Coast. Why is it updating?

Orph, some of the games that appear to be updating individually, are really only the one update being applied accross the board. the lost coast thing will be linked to some other update elsewhere, and not a seperate download.

it could be something like an update to the hdr rendering, or some other shared resource.
