Seems the only obstacle yet to overcome is the dates. So, lets try to get this nailed down shall we?

Sorry, no "Other option" this time. If you have another date in mind, post it.

June 1 - July 1. I got 6 essays to write in between now and the middle of May so that date suits me fine.

That's true. Can't really police when people start with their entries.

2 months sounds fair because it helps if "something happens" and people can't work on it that month. Deadlines are important but a single month sounds a bit stressful. Three months is a bit long (also July is too hot) but I prefere it over 1 month.

I voted May 1st - July 31st, for the purely selfish reason that I finish uni mid-May, and start my new job straight after, so will only have any sort of time to work on my entry during July most likely. 3 months does seem a bit too long, but hey, shorter would be no good for me personally so why would I vote otherwise

how bout we just start now and finish everything by the end of June? i.e. have all the voting and such done by then, so maybe a June 20th submission deadline? that way everyone gets the time they will need when they need it. if you can't do it in those three months.. well, you probably aren't going to be doing any mapping whatsoever, so you really shouldn't be entering anyway.

Thats not 3 months though is it  Thats April 20th - June 20th, which by my reckoning is two months  I think the problem is that a lot of people are busy with uni/school during may, not that they are too lazy to do mapping. That said, if the deadline was the end of June, that is still a month or so from the end of May.

uhhh well you have a point, but this isn't supposed to be a super-long competition. a short one. that's kind of the goal of this comp: to make it easy for people to enter. just do a single room and be done. that's all it is.

Well, my exams (and as far as I'm aware generally the A2 exams in the UK) end in late June (26th for me), so if we're saying July 1 then I'm out I'm afraid.

Purely from a selfish point of view, of course...

No, all we can truly govern is the ending, sooo, I suggest we begin soon and postpone the ending to the latest popular date.

Hope that made sense.

You have my word that I have not laid the first solid yet.

That said, I votes May 1 through July 31

Why do I suspect that you missed that part of the thread that specifically says it can be very big rooms?

Anyway, I suspect some have already begun and it looks/appears as if July 31 is the most popular ending date... So far.

I suspect that it will win the poll.

Still... We'll see.

I'm not sure. Why do you suspect I did not read that part? My room was originally planned to be huge - around half a kilometer long. but my point was that people need not create an entire map, or even a very large detailed room. a small detailed room has plenty of chance for winning as well. that was the goal of that statement.

OK..

It just caused some massive confusion early on. I never dreamed that a forum full of smart people could be so.... thick.

1/2 a K huh?

Sounds like your room will be 1/3 the size of mine.

well, not anymore. I changed it. But.. who knows. I usually end up
changing everything when I go to hammer. I'm quite interrested in
seeing what you have planned though. Mapping competitions are always
good spectator sports.

Start it in july. Two or one month. It's really hard for me to participate now. I got many works and exams to do.

If this one comes off without to much trouble, it will be the first time in.... Over 2 years?

I dunno, without checking but its been ages.

Sadly, when you think about it, we had to come up with something this simple just to get any forward motion.

Funny thing is, what I have planned will be my biggest creation ever.

I think, I might post pic's of a closet, just to throw people off.

There was, and... Its on a perpetual holding pattern over Snarkpit.

Remember? Everyone is waiting for Lep to decide what to do next?

It seems that since he hosted it, everyone felt it prudent to await his word on what to do next.

Leps too busy for us proles now! I think we can safely say that
competition, unfortunately, died without a real result. Bad timing and
all, when it was in conjuction with his finals et al.

We can still do this one outside of "officialdom" (me and ReNo will
make it as officaial as we can, our hands are a bit tied) and safely
use it to represent the community.

I have faith that anything you cannot handle due to time constraints, somebody here can cover.

This one will come off. Be it one map or twenty.

If, by some small chance there is but one, at least there will be no dispute over 1st place. :heee:

The purpose of this is to have fun. Everything else, is secondary.

the reason I said we could have two was because it seems that half the participants want to start now and half want to start after june. therefore, have one now and one at the start of july. that's all that was meant to do. cuz seriously, i don't want to wait three months. that's a quarter of a year. 1 month is far more managable.

1st off, as previously mentioned , it would be impossible to police "when" someone began. Damned few people are either trust worthy, or as lazy as myself who would indeed wait till the official begin date. That said, begin your map today, just have the courtesy not to post screens of it till a bit after the start date.

We can control the ending date, which looks like July 1 will be the one... I await but a couple more days to see how the vote goes.

Unless I die, I will see the ending of this competition comes off well. In the event of my death, I am sure that there will be others willing to see its completion.

Go start your map. I won't tell.
