Didn't Tremors get released some time ago? I remember you posting pictures of it before because it looked f**king hot  You should enter something for Q4 into this years contest Andrew - would be nice to see a different engine represented and if we are going for a creativity angle rather than aiming to get some actual playable levels out of it, the engine really shouldn't matter.

Yep, Tremors went out in the hideously named 'quakemas' map pack back in December.

I thought about entering but between family, work, and other side projects I probably don't have the room to fit anything else. I dunno. We'll see how that goes and what the final timeframe is (is there one yet? I should read up again...)

I have always loved the crisp textures used in Doom/Quake maps of late. My only concern is, with the crispness of the textures, people are making sterile feeling maps. Its almost hospital clean sometimes.

Nice Andrew, very nice. If you could see your way to adding a bit of something for the contest it would be appreciated. We need a name, with a bit more umpff than mine this time.

Old Orph seems to have lost his touch. Times were, I knew a hundred people by ICQ number who'd kill to join.

Mayhap, if I can pull off what I wanna build, more would take me serious again.

He means this years Snarkpit mapping competition I think Dred - ie,
having a Quake 4 room in with our current HL2 maps that are gonna be
made.

There is a case for not allowing entries from professionals, granted, but I think we should allow them to. Having a job in the industry doesn't make you automatically better than others. Besides, worst case scenario - have "best amateur entry" and "best pro entry" awards

I wouldn't place Andrew in with your common Joe's but I also do not think it guarantees a win being a paid level designer either.

It could be argued however, that "IF" he enters and is the only Q4 entrant, that he would win that game by default.

I also think that if we have 19 entries from HL2 and 2 for HL1 that they cannot be competed against each other. The two with HL1 maps would be in a class by themselves and voted 1st and second place accordingly.

/my thinking.

Those levels are looking very sexy Andrew. Good to see the Quake team
is interested in producing new content in a timely manner to keep the
game fresh and interesting.

I'm going to have to pick up Q4 at some point, it looks damned fun for
a bit of action. Particularly after seeing some previews and media for
Quake Wars. Maybe when I get the new Tomb Raider game this week. Damn
full-time work has its benefits  .

Just keep in mind Quake 4 and Quake Wars are very different games. Q4 is much more the straight forward run and gun with twitch multiplayer while Quake Wars is the class-based team MP followup to RTCW: Enemy Territory (which is a free download, for anyone not aware, and VERY good. ).

As for the contest business, if I entered anything, it'd be HL2. Never hurts to keep up on other editors and I'd be interested to see what I could pull off in a Combine theme. Even though it'd pain me to abandon my precious patch meshes
