"10,000 Days" is their most political album yet (man, that name sucks, but it's a good album). I don't think "Lateralus" was their best stuff though, even though I love that mathematically induced album.

Thanks Crono, I didn't have all my Tool CDs on my computer, but I had been content listening to what I had... until your comment. I'd still say I like Lateralus the most, but I had forgotten how great Undertow and Aenima are.

I've been "getting into" Gogol Bordello lately, gypsy punk. Yahhhhh. It reminds me of Kaizers Orchestra, only punk-ish, and in English. Kind of like Dropkick Murphy's too, at least what I've heard of them.

I just got One Hot Minute by t3h chili peppers. They've got quite a different sound with Navarro instead of Frusciante, it's much more metal-oriented. I must say I like it less, but it still pwns.

Got the new Less Than Jake album "In With The Out Crowd", and can't say I'm hugely impressed with it. Some decent songs, but it's just a bit tame and unremarkable for my liking. Their last proper album, "Anthem", was possibly their best work in my opinion so I had fairly high hopes for this one, but sadly they've not really lived up to them. It's just sad that the more rocky stuff on there doesn't match the likes of "Ghosts of You and Me" or "Look What Happened", and their playful, bouncy stuff isn't in the same league as the likes of "The Science of Selling Yourself Short" or "Plastic Cup Politics". God I loved Anthem

They have a single out from this new album, "Overrated (Everything Is)", which isn't a bad song but isn't exactly what I'd hope for from LTJ. Stronger songs on the album for me are "A Still Life Franchise", "In-Dependence Day" and "Mostly Memories", which at least sound distinctive. There isn't anything particularly horrible on the album (though "Hopeless Case" makes me think of Bon Jovi or Brian Adams for some reason  ), just not enough stand out LTJ style tunes.

Probably better than that newish Reel Big Fish album though - that was an album that really disappointed me.

I've been really digging the Aquabats lately. They sing about the most random things - pool parties, pizza, a skateboard - in a really energetic ska style. Supposedly they dress up like madeup superheroes for their shows, only to have supervillain-clad fans to attack the stage. Sounds good to me.

Well I found a gift certificate to Best Buy in my wallet for 20 bucks (score!) so I bought 'Niandra LaDes and Usually Just a T-Shirt', John Frusciante's first solo album.

He recorded it after he left the Chili Peppers and was on 24-hour heroin binges.... and it shows. This is possible the trippiest music I've ever heard in my life. Randomly there's just like screechy stuff and stuff and like.... yeah.

Good music though.

I'd heard "Such Great Heights" on a snowboarding video or something before and really liked it, but had no idea who it was. Thanks for bringing them back to my attention. Not entirely sure if I could get into them or not, but its certainly something a bit different yet still similar to stuff I listen to a lot, so I might give the album a try.

And is that Elisha Cuthbert in the video "We Will Become Silhouettes"? What the hell is she doing in there?

I'm currently listening to the new Lostprophets album.

There are some great tracks on the album (Rooftops, Can't catch
tommorow, Everybody's screaming). I'll need to listen to it some more
before I can get a better opinion, though at the moment I see it as
having a good start, middle, though it goes a bit to 'soppy' at the end
for my liking.

Yes, Hawksley is certifiably the man, though I don't really like that song. I haven't really listened to his debut much, though. MEH.

Got The Sound The Hare Heard, essentially a Kill Rock Stars compilation. I had only even heard of 1/3 of the artists before getting it but mostly it's really great if you're into the mellow stuff... which 0.03% of you are... hrm.

uhm ??!!

are you serious? those are all decent songs, but from the mainstream / dated side of trance. how many producers you listened to to jump to that conclusion?

There are so many that you might not have heard yet.

only to name a few examples:

Above & Beyond - No One on Earth (Gabriel & Dresden remix)
Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes (Gabriel & Dresden Sweeping Strings remix)
Way out West - Killa (Orkidea remix)
hampshire and nysse ft nikita - eternal voices (airwaves revenge mix)
Ernesto vs. Bastian - Dark Side Of The Moon (Marc Van Linden Remix)
George Hales - Isolation (Soliquid Remix)
Aria - Dido (Armin Van Buuren`s Universal Religion Mix)
Signum - Second Wave (also check out the mash-up with delirium - silence)
GTR - Mistral
Push - Universal Nation
Evanescence - Hello (Gabriel & Dresden remix)
Basic Dawn - Pure Thrust (Nu-NRG remix)
Ferry Corsten - Star Traveller (Hydroid Remix)

and those aren't even the most recent ones. i could go on forever

of your list i personally only find Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun worth mentioning, and only in the Tiesto remix.

didn't know you were exploring trance Spartan  I'm a huge addict and i'm even into producing together with a m8. Check out our first production that we're proud of (it also got played on di.fm), and let me know what you think  . We also organised a trance party this year, called affexion.

(EDIT: for those of you who have never heard (good) trance, i uploaded a small sample (693kb), cut out of a recent liveset)

Lostprophets - Liberation Transmission. A potential album of the year for me, up there with Taking Back Sundays latest album
Hello there.

Lost prophets are tools of the music trade, changing with the era like a man takes a s**t. Ever since they emo-ized they have been lame, they were a better Nu metal band.

As for recently listened...

Download festival 2006, loads of bands.
Tool - Sober
Dimmu Borgir - Puritanical Misanthropia, or whatever its called. (the album)
Cacophony - Speed Metal Symphony (for anyone who likes guitar solos, this is the staple diet of the 2 greatest guitarists of neoclassical music).
Billy Talent
Arch Enemy - The most hardcore female singer you'll ever hear, and suprisingly hot! (saw em at Download aswell, along with Lacuna Coil, damn shes hot).

I just found out about this band called Wolfmother. They're an australian power trio, and their bassist doubles as a keyboardist. These guys are like Zeppelin, Ozzy and the White Stripes as one awesome band. Seriously, see if you can get a sample listen somewhere on the net. These guys are insaaaaaaaaanely good.
