Recently watched

I thought Mi2 was the best out of the three movies, had a pretty good
mix of everything and was well balanced. At least as far as an action
movie goes :smile: .

Saw the trailer for the new bond movie, Casino Royale (which funnily
enough happens to be the name of a bond spoof starring Peter Sellers,
David Niven and Orson Welles). The link is below:

Looks like it might be okay, even if the new guy doesn't look like a
bond. One disturbing detail I noticed in the trailer is that bond is
wearing a hawaiian shirt throughout, perhaps a terrible omen of what is
to come :smile: .

Speaking of omen, The Omen looks... interesting. I believe, like many movies nowadays its a remake of an old movie.

Also don't post any spoliers for Lost. We are about half-way through
the second season here and I will be forced to kill whoever ruins it
for me, having wasted about 8 hrs of my life watching Lost 15 minute
recaps. Also looking forward to seeing if there is any link between Mi3
and Lost, or just a lame attempt to boost the box office earnings.

Alright they're playing the old MIs everywhere on TV and now, having seen MI1 for the 3rd time or so, I still don't get the end. What's happening in that stupid train? I don't care about the NOC list but who are all those people and what do they want?

by the way, i watched avp today, it was interesting since they've had so many games
the movie surprised me and i actually found it to be fairly good, with an interesting twist in the ending
however, my oppinion might be slightly effected by how badass the predators are

Just saw The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I guess there are a lot of people who would fall asleep watching it but I love the little visual gags. Not much laugh-out-loud funny it's just plain absurd and rather cool.

That is one of my all time favorite movies. I just fell in love with the artistic style they represented in it. It was a much different film than what we've seen in the past several years.

watched an episode of "deadwood" last night....the one where Al is trying to pass a bladder stone.....has the hooker stick her thumb up his ass for a "pain diversion" attempt.....i havent laughed that hard since the last time i saw it....serious show, but that just kills me every time i see it....

Wes Anderson also directed The Royal Tenenbaums. Another favourite of mine.

just finished watching Good Will Hunting in one sitting for the first time
i'd watched several parts of it several times but it's so much better in one piece
still a good movie

Just watched an episode of "The Dog Whisper" for the first time. I was actually impressed at Czar's ability to turn aggresive dogs into well mannered ones.

Just watched Slap Shot last night. I only watched it because all my hockey player friends jizz whenever the movie gets mentioned. And they all have the Hanson brothers up on their wall.

I wasn't too impressed. If you indulge in hockey fights though, you'll probably have a good time, eh?

Firewall - basically a recontextualized Air Force One, but I like Ford/Bettany in general so whoo. Good enough but nothing really interesting.

Hostel - started off well enough with nudity, but then bam, violence! I liked it though, just pretty damn gross at parts. And I just loved those little kids at the end... poopheads throughout the film but just awesome at the end. :smile:

watched the new Pink Panther today.. Although it contained a bit to much silliness, it was still chock full of my kind of humor.

Watched Firewall last week. I agree that its a tired scenario but, it was still masterfully handled.

Just watched the paint dry on my walls. Very exciting indeed.

Its not as good as the radio and tv shows. Shame it wasnt finished either as Duglas Dadams died before he had finished writing it.

The one part of it I really liked was seeing the original Mavin making a brief camio in the que on the thingys (carnt remember there name) homeworld.

I just finished King Kong, the new one with Jack Black. This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Really. Hugh and I have spent many a night trying to figure out what, if anything, couild kick a T-rex's arse. Well, King Kong took on 3 at a time with his woman in one hand. I'm pretty sure King Kong could take Dracula and maybe even Frankenstein's Monster. Simultaneously.

I love this movie so much. One of my favorite parts is when Kong breaks the (It's actually a "V-Rex", that's name Weta dubbed) T-Rex's jaw and pushes it into its brain. Then he plays with the jaw pieces to make sure it's dead. Awesome. (Andy Serkis deserves awards)

The only thing I HATE is that they didn't have the foresight to shoot the damn thing on digital media! It's shot on film, so the amazing CG work goes to waste in some of the composite shots because the people look like they have no reason to be there. It wasn't that bad in theaters, noticeable, but not bad. But on DVD, it's just like ... what the hell?

Clarification:
If you're confused on what the issue is, it's that the people are far more blurry than the CG elements, so the people look out of place. It's a shame too, because everything else is terrific.

I'm going to see Superman Returns on Tuesday evening and crap my pants at how awesome it is.

I'd rather not have this thread to derailed but, in my youth I spent an inordinate amount of my spare change on comic books. There was a short lived series on the classifications of comic hero's/villains. In them, there were hypothetical battles between them, both DC and Marvel were represented. Neither were necessarily pitted against each other (DC vs. Marvel) or (Hero vs. Villain)

They were pitted against each other by class. Thor battled Hulk.. Hulk won. Spider man battled someone and lost.. so on and so forth. Right down to Batman who has no special powers other than his noggin..

Anyway, it was a great series. Everyone should own a copy.

They've done that plenty of times. It's always been an alright idea, but it has always had a sense of "Lame" attached to it.

The last time they did it was about ten years ago. They had Superman fight Hulk. Superman won, which is ridiculous. Silver Surfer vs. Green Lantern, Spider-Man vs Superboy (so goddamned lame), Wolverine vs Lobo (Wolverine won, but as much as I like him ... he can't destroy planets), Batman fought Capitan America, which I always thought was a poor choice. He should have fought Daredevil. (They ended up not really fighting and figuring everything out.)
Afterwards they had an issue where the universes crossed over and people combined into one person. Then they had a series of first issue from this "Amalgam" universe. Some of them weren't too bad. But overall it was badly done and incredibly stupid.

Yeah, I don't plan on watching the new Superman but the new Batman one was horrible. :razz: He's like "lolol, don't want to kill this guy, that's not justice!!" and then blows up the building.

I think that the new batman was only considered good because the film series had gone to s**t and this was the first decent batman movie in ages.

As for Superman Returns, if it gets good reviews I'll go watch it.

Just watched Syriana. It's got a good premise, about the corruption of the oil industry. Unfortunately, the way it's written, it's really confusing and hard to follow and you get a bit disinterested in what's going on. I wouldn't recommend seeing it.

Desperate for English language entertainment, I watched Sleepless for Seattle last night. It was funny in a few parts, but overall pretty s**tty.

It tried too hard to be a classic love story by ripping off Clark Gable and the bygone era, and that pissed me off.

On Friday I watched Ice Age 2 (entertaining), and rewatched V for Vendetta (Liked it just as much as the first time).

I watched Mission Impossible 3 last night, but unfortunately it was a s**tty pirated DVD my Chinese roommate has. Sound cut off, sound quality was bad, image quality was bad (which sucks since the movie is a visual bonanza), and at one point some guy stood up in the theater and blocked the shot.

Yet, I watched the whole thing since it was the 4th of July last night and I was feeling all patriotic and therefore in true American fashion I wanted to watch s**t explode.

Anyway -- I enjoyed it (despite the shortfalls of piracy) and I think my favorite part was watching Hoffman be a villain. Pretty sweet.

If you liked the last 2, I don't see how you could be disappointed by this one, which was actually kinda smart with the twists.

I'm looking forward to watching Serenity, The Red Violin, and Jet Li's last movie: Fearless. I've already seen Serenity (and like it), but I think I'll watch it tonight with a buddy since he hasn't.
