Well I went on a bit of a binge with my dad last night. I watched the following in the folowing order.

Full Metal Jacket: THe beginning part in boot camp was awesome, and then the movie kinda went downhill.

Gladiator: Wow. Incredible movie. If anyone hasn't seen it, do it now.

Blair Witch Project: I don't see how anyone didn't find this the scariest s**t they've ever seen. I pissed myself about 8 times during this film. It was just incredible, the way they never showed anything actually scary, it was entirely psychological. THat's how good scary movies are made. No gore, no popping up stuff, pure psychological. That's what made Alien so kick ass too.

Fawlty Towers: Watched the first 6 of the 12 episodes made. Another reason why I <3 John Cleese. Absolutely histerical.

Watch them... now!

You mean, "If you haven't seen it, watch the extended edition", because it's a large improvement on an already amazing film. (It literally ties all the lose ends that are in the theatrical cut)
Blair Witch Project: I don't see how anyone didn't find this the scariest s**t they've ever seen. I pissed myself about 8 times during this film. I agree with you for the most part, but I hate that movie. No amount of ambiance and creepy imagery could save that movie. Why? The actors were a joke. I understand it was a school project and independent and everything, but seriously. They're definitely sitting pretty, since the supplies for that movie set them back a few thousand bucks ... and the return was well into the millions.

And Alien is boring after one viewing.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Prepares for vast amounts of tear filled commentary.

Yes, but the book has re-readability. Tis why everyone knows that the books are better than the movie renditions. :heee:

On a serious note, the only thing wrong with any of the Alien books/movies were the unreality of the events that occurred. Human nature has a survival instinct. All most none of the characters in the books/movies showed a trace of this. They kept doing dumb thing after dumb thing.

Then they got owned by Predators. What's your point?

Honestly, I couldn't care less about what happens in the strictly "Alien" universe. Books aren't always better.
They're quite separate in my mind. I almost always view the film medium as its own 'thing'. If you want to read the book ... then do so. There are certain situations, though, that I will get adamant about how they treat the material. But, that's a bit different, since I'm not particularly concerned with the "facts" that are left out, but more that the aroma, or feel, of the source material is preserved. This seems to be more common in more recent movies. I suppose I'm not all closed minded about adaptations!

But, I don't care about "Alien", it was a nice introduction, but I liked the atmosphere in Resurrection the most. That one just had the WORST ending.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

You did real good Crono. My post was directed at...You, but you caught on with hardly more than my reference to tears.

I have a counterpoint to make, but... I cannot figure out exactly how to postulate it. Yeah, I am having a blonde moment.

I know what I desire to say, I just can't get it on paper so to speak... I hate not being able to type what I want.

So Lost season 2 ended and I finally got around to watching the finale. Great stuff - though the season was probably weaker than the first one and a little slow at times this double episode made up for it! Gotta love that show, one of the best things to happen to TV in a long while.

Saw MI3 recently... and despite my low expectations going in, I thought it was really good. It would be hard to make a better action movie.

I thought Mi2 was the best out of the three movies, had a pretty good
mix of everything and was well balanced. At least as far as an action
movie goes  .

Saw the trailer for the new bond movie, Casino Royale (which funnily
enough happens to be the name of a bond spoof starring Peter Sellers,
David Niven and Orson Welles). The link is below:

http://www.007.com

Looks like it might be okay, even if the new guy doesn't look like a
bond. One disturbing detail I noticed in the trailer is that bond is
wearing a hawaiian shirt throughout, perhaps a terrible omen of what is
to come  .

Speaking of omen, The Omen looks... interesting. I believe, like many movies nowadays its a remake of an old movie.

Also don't post any spoliers for Lost. We are about half-way through
the second season here and I will be forced to kill whoever ruins it
for me, having wasted about 8 hrs of my life watching Lost 15 minute
recaps. Also looking forward to seeing if there is any link between Mi3
and Lost, or just a lame attempt to boost the box office earnings.

Alright they're playing the old MIs everywhere on TV and now, having seen MI1 for the 3rd time or so, I still don't get the end. What's happening in that stupid train? I don't care about the NOC list but who are all those people and what do they want?

No, you don't have to.

by the way, i watched avp today, it was interesting since they've had so many games
the movie surprised me and i actually found it to be fairly good, with an interesting twist in the ending
however, my oppinion might be slightly effected by how badass the predators are

Just saw The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I guess there are a lot of people who would fall asleep watching it but I love the little visual gags. Not much laugh-out-loud funny it's just plain absurd and rather cool.

That is one of my all time favorite movies. I just fell in love with the artistic style they represented in it. It was a much different film than what we've seen in the past several years.

Firewall - basically a recontextualized Air Force One, but I like Ford/Bettany in general so whoo. Good enough but nothing really interesting.

Hostel - started off well enough with nudity, but then bam, violence! I liked it though, just pretty damn gross at parts. And I just loved those little kids at the end... poopheads throughout the film but just awesome at the end.

Besides, it has never been the general consensus that any of us recognize quality viewing.

Recently watched Nanny McPhee.. two thumbs up. HQ kids flick.

watched the new Pink Panther today.. Although it contained a bit to much silliness, it was still chock full of my kind of humor.

Watched Firewall last week. I agree that its a tired scenario but, it was still masterfully handled.

If I didn't know the history of atomic weaponry, this movie wouldn't have disturbed me so much.

I just finished King Kong, the new one with Jack Black. This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Really. Hugh and I have spent many a night trying to figure out what, if anything, couild kick a T-rex's arse. Well, King Kong took on 3 at a time with his woman in one hand. I'm pretty sure King Kong could take Dracula and maybe even Frankenstein's Monster. Simultaneously.

I'd like to see King Kong fight the Hulk. I mean, the Hulk would win, but ... man would that be awesome.

I love this movie so much. One of my favorite parts is when Kong breaks the (It's actually a "V-Rex", that's name Weta dubbed) T-Rex's jaw and pushes it into its brain. Then he plays with the jaw pieces to make sure it's dead. Awesome. (Andy Serkis deserves awards)

The only thing I HATE is that they didn't have the foresight to shoot the damn thing on digital media! It's shot on film, so the amazing CG work goes to waste in some of the composite shots because the people look like they have no reason to be there. It wasn't that bad in theaters, noticeable, but not bad. But on DVD, it's just like ... what the hell?

Clarification:
If you're confused on what the issue is, it's that the people are far more blurry than the CG elements, so the people look out of place. It's a shame too, because everything else is terrific.

I'm going to see Superman Returns on Tuesday evening and crap my pants at how awesome it is.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Yeah, i noticed on the DVD that it seemed like KK kinda "jumped through" some people when he was coming out of the alleyway.
I tried sniffing coke, but the ice cubes kept getting stuck in my nose.

I'd rather not have this thread to derailed but, in my youth I spent an inordinate amount of my spare change on comic books. There was a short lived series on the classifications of comic hero's/villains. In them, there were hypothetical battles between them, both DC and Marvel were represented. Neither were necessarily pitted against each other (DC vs. Marvel) or (Hero vs. Villain)

They were pitted against each other by class. Thor battled Hulk.. Hulk won. Spider man battled someone and lost.. so on and so forth. Right down to Batman who has no special powers other than his noggin..

Anyway, it was a great series. Everyone should own a copy.

I would like an update on this excremental discharging. The mental image of the people sitting next to you in the theater is hilarious.

The best things in life, aren't things.

If when you say 'how awesome it is' you really mean 'how much it's going to blow' then I wholeheartedly support your statement.

Bryan Singer hasn't made one bad movie as of yet. And I strongly doubt that he'd start with Superman.

Oh, also: Die.

They've done that plenty of times. It's always been an alright idea, but it has always had a sense of "Lame" attached to it.

The last time they did it was about ten years ago. They had Superman fight Hulk. Superman won, which is ridiculous. Silver Surfer vs. Green Lantern, Spider-Man vs Superboy (so goddamned lame), Wolverine vs Lobo (Wolverine won, but as much as I like him ... he can't destroy planets), Batman fought Capitan America, which I always thought was a poor choice. He should have fought Daredevil. (They ended up not really fighting and figuring everything out.)
Afterwards they had an issue where the universes crossed over and people combined into one person. Then they had a series of first issue from this "Amalgam" universe. Some of them weren't too bad. But overall it was badly done and incredibly stupid.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Superman looks sooooo bad. They even had the audacity to call it Superman Returns. What a ripoff of the good movie Batman Returns.

Yeah, I don't plan on watching the new Superman but the new Batman one was horrible. He's like "lolol, don't want to kill this guy, that's not justice!!" and then blows up the building.
One day you'll know what you're talking about, I can hardly imagine
