I saw this on Valve-ERC and was somewhat confused. Apparently there's a new HLRAD that does faster custom shadows stuff. It's not by Merl or Zoner so I don't know anything about it. Here's a link to the page:

Check out post #32. Does anyone know anything else about this? Is it based on 2.5.3 build 17?

Never heard about it ... and I don't really trust it either.

hullu is the one who coded the custom shadows (the colored bit, at least) that was included in HLRad anyway. Merl included it with his own code for the MHLT 1.7 build.

And it's not faster. If you used that colored shadow stuff, your compile time will increase dramatically. Not sure how fast this new tool is though - I have to admit I've never used the colored shadows too extensively.

I think he implied that he's optimized the colored shadows part and put them in this code. I don't think he meant that colored shadows were fast in the first place.
