The Tokyo Game Show is just kicking off at the minute, so its the second half of the year's chance to fill us all to the brim with gaming news. I know most of you guys prefer Western games, which TGS isn't exactly the "hub" for, but has anything caught your eye? Anything you are particularly looking out for more news or media of?
So far not much has happened other than on the Microsoft front, as they had their main presentation yesterday. Nice to see that they have the Japanese RPG genre covered so nicely on the 360 after its, well, non-existence on the original Xbox.
Blue Dragon releasing in Japan this side of Christmas is a suprise to me, and less surprising is the fact it looks
pretty damn awesome (if you like that sort of thing). Great to see in-game action of
Lost Odyssey - looking
every bit as epic as the Final Fantasy series it is setup to challenge, and every bit as traditional (for better or worse!) in its gameplay. Perhaps more interesting though are the new ones getting laid on the table -
Trusty Bell: Chopin's Dream and
Infinite Undiscovery. Never expected to be looking forward to so many JRPG's on the 360 of all things - that's meant to be the PS3's job.
One of the best pieces of news of recent days for me has been the announcement of a new Kingdom Under Fire game. Less good news - it appears to have dropped all the strategy/army commanding aspect of the Xbox games and gone down the solo-characer action RPG road  I'll almost undoubtedly still buy it, but I was oh so looking forward to some massive scale strategy hack and slash after Ninety Nine Nights failed to fill that hole. Maybe Koei's Ni-Oh on the PS3 wll go down that road.
Something that might peak a few more people here's interest though - a
15 minute developer walkthrough video of BioShock (the spiritual successor to System Shock). I've not downloaded it yet, but I'm seriously looking forward to watching it. The screenshots I've seen look astounding and have a great style to them, and from the reactions I've heard about the video, it doesn't disappoint!
In other news, a leaked file from Ubisoft has confirmed
several previously unannounced game titles, including Prince of Persia 4 (bit of a surprise given the first 3 were meant to be a closed trilogy, but hey, it made them lots of money so not TOO surprising!), Splinter Cell 5 (aren't we all shocked), Far Cry 2 (
dear lord! REALLY?!), and some surfing game. Oh and Lost...which I
really don't think should be made into a game.
