When Jacob approached me and asked if he could make this thread I thought at first, 'hell no are you crazy' but than I said yes.

Snarkpit has been getting quieter and quieter and quieter..... less threads are being created less posts are posted and eventually people will stop posting all together. But I have also noticed one thing, the amount of members visiting this site has generally been the same, this means one thing. You folk are holding back from what you really want to say and/or are worried about what the other members think. If this trend keeps up there will be nothing left of snarkpit and people will stop coming.

I say this thread was a good idea and people should NOT be so worried about what is being posted in the General banter fourm, its a place to chat about random stuff and have some laughs and some fun and if you don't like a thread than don't support it, simply don't post anything and the thread will die. The editing fourms are a different story, its business there and I can understand that things would be strict.

Am I right people?

The difference between the Snarkpit and forums like Facepunch is that these "filler" thread are taboo. The purpose of the Snarkpit is not to waste time, but to discuss mapping and showcase work. If that means there are periods of no little or no posting, so be it. We can spend our time doing better things than explaining why we can or can't whistle, like, for instance, mapping.

The General Banter forum carries that same esteem, and while it allows more to slide than the rest of the site, absolutely pointless threads are still discouraged.

Aaron and White, stop making these threads, it will help your respective reputations in innumerable ways.

thats my point. you dont showcase work or discuss mapping in general banter. thats serious stuff goes in other fourms. general banter is for talking to other people and about stuff in the world and having fun.

what you are saying is about the other fourms. general banter is diffrent. its for general chatter like in msn. if you have come to show people maps or ask about hammer than it goes in the other places.

this thread is not pointless. i just want to make conversation. i dont care about my reputation. trying to make the general banter thread more lively should not damage my repitation.

Wrong! Its not about a place to 'have fun', its a place to discuss topics that have realivence. Look at all the 'recently' threads. Its worthy to bump one of those with a new book / movie you've read / watched and contribute back. Not discuss weather you have attached earlobes or can whistle.

Arron and your brother, you haven't been at the pit long enough to know all the s**t that has taken place. the general board was lively and active come 2004 ish and even more so in 02 and 03 with heated debates about everything. Fact of the matter is a lot was said recently, some really cool people left because of it. Egos were hurt, things were said. Its all over now. And those of us who remain have enjoyed what the forums have become.

Sure go ahead and make threads like these, Its the internet, whos gonna stop you? And what do you care if these are the types of responses your always gonna get from your thread creations. But by no means defend them saying its for the better of the general board, because its not.
