Actually, that would be pretty funny.
I bet it's based on the phase of the moon or something.

This is what it looks like to me, but I'm probably wrong.
Forums:
Post = +1
Correct Answer = +1 (with the original post it's 2)
Incorrect Answer = -1 (with the original post it's 0)
Maps And Tutorials:
Map = +24
Tutorial = +24
Comment = +1
Rating:
5 = +200
4 = +175
3 = +150
2 = +125
1 = +100
And the floating values add inbetween values.
Well thats about the only way I can rationalize this system.

That can't be right, because I would have something like:
~90 posts = 90
3 maps = 72
4 rating = 175
total = 337
eh, snarkmarks are no big deal anyways (says the person who has around 200 :biggrin: )

Lep posted the SnarkMark scheme back when they were first introduced. He recently updated how maps fit into the whole deal. If I remember correctly, the rating is multiplied to the post count somehow, tutorials and maps are worth a large amount, multiplied by average rating, comments on maps and tuts are worth more than normal posts, a correct answer is ~5 I think and I don't remember incorrect answers figuring into the equation at all.
Since it does seem rather like a black box system, it may be a smart thing to show the equation used somewhere. Then again, hiding it kinda keeps anyone from bothering to come up with strategies specifically for increasing snarkmarks.

Hiding it keeps people from bitching about it, usually, they just 'went down' as they're recalculated when you login or check your CP and I probably changed the formula since then :razz: Buuuut if you must know, make of this what you will:
SM = ceil((40*tutaverage*tuts) + (5*answeredqs) + ((posts+(5*topics)+(2*comments))*(userrating/5)) + ((mapratingaverage+1)*5*noofmaps) + (mapdownloads/5) + (profilehits/5))
So you can get quite a lot from writing lots of good tutorials and uploading lots of good maps, among other things :smile:

Took me a while to figgure out what a "noofmap" was (I was thinking of it as "noof map", not "no. of maps").

Still it doesn't explain how they drop suddenly; it used to be a couple of hundreds and the next morning i only find 65!!! and there is nothing new in my Control Panel, so none of the factors u said caused it (profile hits, maps etc...).
Look, they may be abstract but i liked my snarkmarks... why the hell did they go???

There's a poem called The hunting of the Snark: an agony in eight fits by Lewis Caroll, who also wrote Alice in Wonderland/Through the looking glass.
