So why aren't Valve's special agents in Russia right now trying to 'persuade' the perpetrators to stop selling stolen leaks? I mean, surely, it's Valve's job to enforce copyright laws halfway across the world.

Myeah, we've seen b?ta's from the stolen code around, so we might have heard this coming.

Anyway, this 'll be hard for Valve.

This is kinda old news... they are just selling what was originally leaked as the full game.

Im sorry but Valve must be really dumb to let themselves be attacked like this. Heck by the time all this stuff gets settled, HL2 will have been pushed back so far that they will have to delay it some more because their source engine and graphics will be out of date...

Well, it's not up to Valve, but I'm sure Vivendi or whoever are trying to shut these guys down- but it's not easy to do so in places like Russia!

Anyway, I'm confused- the article claims that 95% of the game was there, i.e. 95% of the game was stolen last year- so what was all that bitching earlier about them actually being nowhere near completion and that they knew they'd miss the September deadline, etc. etc.? Did they or did they not have 95% of the game done back at E3?

All they had I think was the 30 minute or so trailer showing off the engine and AI capabilities. I dont think they had any "playable" stuff then.

I think what they meant was that who ever 'finished' the game from the leaked code fixed all the problems except the storyline plot holes.

On another note. I don't think they're pushing back condition-zero. . . . . . Has anyone else noticed they shinney new stragity guides and walk throughs showing up in game stores?

I say tenbajillion copies at EBX, I thought it was odd that they had stragity guides out for a game that technically doesn't have a release date, but then again they take everything out of the cases and sacrafice like 10 games for display, until they decide to sell then used.

[EDIT]
Wild: no, they had more. I know a few people who've downloaded it (I hit them don't worry lol), and they explained that for the most part it looked like the Demo they showed, but the game-play was horrible, because it was chopy. As was the visual elements. He claimed there were "black holes everywhere, literally". As for the actual BSP Stuff, the hacker (list alias' here) took what was done.

However, another thing he said was that it settled doubts he had and insured his purchase of Half-Life 2 when it does come out. It also 'fed' his hunger for HL2, even if its only for a little while.
[/EDIT]

No. We prefer not to d/l evil leaked stuff. Encouraging that stuff is what is giving Valve all this trouble and delaying games etc.

Yes, I think if they delay it any longer than about July this year, they'll have to think about upgrading some parts of the engine, hence delaying it more

This is a common market overseas, and it's not just HL2 that encounters this sort of piracy. HL2 just happened to make the news because of all the flurry about the leaked source. There were full-quality DVDs of Return of the King on sale in places before the movie was even released, or at the very least within hours of the first showings.

I've posted some news about CS:CZ recently. It has been leaked, and nobody really knows how the development is going atm. It wasn't even mentioned on Vivendi's 2004 game list.

At the time, people who had been to E3 and saw the demo said that after the demo one of the staff was playing the game in real time and that it looked smooth enough... Did anyone see the story about the FBI coming to some guys house and confiscating 9 computers from his house in connection with the HL2 leak? You really think that valve would deliberately leak to get more dev time? Have you any idea how much trouble they would be in if, having got the FBI on the case, it turned out they did the whole thing on purpose!? As for basing your opinion on the matter on the leaked material itself, if you do this you are an idiot; whos to say the code and material that was leaked wasn't a year old? The fact is that we don't really know any of the facts because valve haven't said anything.

On top of this, nobody has an answer to: Why would valve announce a pre-christmas release date for the game after 4/5 years of development at E3 if they needed extra dev time just a month after the announcement? Whatever you say about steam and CS:CZ, valve aren't just a bunch of mindless monkeys - I think if they were going to need extra dev time, they would have had some idea of this just a month before at E3? If you go the 'valve is nasty' route, you end up in bunch of totally illogical situations.
CS:CZ [...] wasn't even mentioned on Vivendi's 2004 game list.
Well perhaps it isn't on the list of 2004 releases because the financial year doesn't start until the 1st of April, and CS:CZ is coming out before that? As far as I know, Valve have given the 'final master CD' or whatever you call it to the publishers, and all the delay since them doing that is down to vivendi

Yep, I was wrong jeff, didn't read the update:
This may all be a big mix-up, since the games list was part of a Vivendi financial report, and that could possibly mean that Condition Zero will be released some time before April 1st (The beginning of the new financial year). From Planet Half-Life:

Some people have pointed out that perhaps CS: CZ has been lumped into Vivendi's 2003 financial year, which is why it's not on the above list. If that's true, then CS: CZ will be published before April 1st. Again, a lot of this is speculation.

It is speculative, indeed. We will be sure to keep you up-to-date on any official announcements that come our way.
