Just wanted to show some odds and end projects I have been working on lately. All of these are WIP.. (always juggling so many little projects). Anyway, I really dig this new forum, and just had to participate.

This is just a mixture of textures, models, and drawings. Pretty self explanatory.

Hopefully, I will get off my ass and draw more in the next few weeks.

I'd love to try skinning that model (even though I suck) whenever you get around to finishing/unwrapping it, if you wouldn't mind.

Like that painting of the soldier - playing card is a nice touch.

Everything here was done in photoshop, except the 3d models. The textures were done just as experimentation, with my interest in texturing is growing... it is probably my weakest point.

Camp - If I ever get around to finishing/skinning that model, I'll let ya know.

Doc - your texture work has truly impressed me... I'm sure I could learn a ton from you and Cass. I dont really know what techniques to elaborate on.. For my drawings, I use a mixture of flat/solid brushes for large areas of color, and hard or soft, low opacity brushes for blending colors. Lately, I have been finding places to throw in layers with odd patterns, just to create a subtle texture (soldiers jacket and helmet, I think I used a picture of a persian rug).
Meh job is going good. The scope of these levels blow me away. I have mainly been working on concepts and terrain...it will be a long time before I see a finished level. Anyway..it's a blast to do this for a living. I just hope it lasts a while.

The metal and stonework on the textures is superb, I must say, in terms of its raw texture. Truly admirable that you made that raw in Photoshop, it's a feat not many could readily accomplish.

Texture 1: The top right stone's bottom edge is lit incorrectly, and the mortar between the stones might be brighter, depending on whether it is a wall or a floor.

Texture 2: The top lip of the concrete trimming the circular grate is again lit incorrectly - it should be dark, and above the dark selection is where the light catches, not on it.

The top of the texture cuts off.

In my opinion, the bottom trim on this texture is just magnificent - coloring, lighting, all of it. The texturing style you seem to have, very World of Warcraft-esque with a realistic twist, really comes together there. That tends to make me believe that the rest of the texture could look just as good if it all had the same darkness and dramatic shadowing.

Texture 3: Metalwork is magnificent, but if I can name the filters you used on the red background, that's generally not a good thing.

Thanks for the tips Cass. I took a little time one day, to try out every filter, and make a jpeg image for reference, so I have a library of filter effects. I find they are best used to simulate some sort of organic or procedural process, but that color-halftone filter just too cool and I had to work it into a couple of textures. Ive never actually aspired to be much of a texture guy, but the more I play with it, the more I dig it. Plus, sitting next to great texture artists all day at work is quite inspiring.

Bah..I have too many interests. Jack of all trades, master of none

I really like texture three, and I wish I knew which filters you used on it like Cass there!

Good job!

These are all very good. I especially like the soldier, as it looks to me like part of a propaganda poster.

Nice stuff there as usual Finger. I don't care for the fourth texture much however - the black background should have something there (unless it is intended to be a masked texture), and the metal is nowhere near as impressive as in the third texture.

I am quite taken aback at the models - I always new you were talented with photoshop but the models are really cool. The skin on the gun is quite good overall but the small interfacey bit with the green and red stuff looks like a poor attempt to tak on some sort of visual output, and I think it deserves a little more work.

The artwork is wonderful as ever, reminds me of a far better version of my Higher art self-portrait in style, only in realistic colours given that mine was kinda psychadelic. I wish I hadn't left that in my old art department actually, woulda been a piece of art I'd actually be willing to show

Heya Reno. Thanks for the honest and accurate observations. The textures and models were never considered finished, and the constructive feedback makes me want to get back to them, and really make them shine.

Good job!
Render Clouds + Halftone filter. Fairly simple.
