ok....i took this from the ns quickstart guide...it explains the cull better than i could....

"In order to limit the amount of processing the commander's machine has to do visible entities are culled (hidden) beyond a certain horizontal distance from the player horizontal position (this effects ALL players). This value is specified by the "XY cull distance" property of the info_mapinfo. If entities are vanishing in your large rooms when you are far away form the entity this may be the culprit."

and heres the link to the applicable page, if you need it....remember that these came out for the original NS. and havent been updated very recently, but the principles are basicly the same, and should solve your dillema...

http://nsworld.ns-central.co.uk/mappingguide/MappingGuide.php#Info_Mapinfo

hope this helps.....

Doc Brass... :dodgy:

EDIT>>> and ive been thinking about your tower problem a bit....if the overall dimensions of the map are not going to be very large, then you could probably get away with moving it to a distant corner, and make sure your command viewpoint distances are not going to let you collide with the tower....i think its a neat idea for a ready room, and i'd love to see it incorporated into your map somehow...

EDIT>>> and if you need to post some pics, you can either apply for some pit space here, if space allows, or you can gimme a holler and ill be glad to post em for you....you have my email addy...

Uh, NS has wall-crawlers and jet packs - there's not going to be many faces in the world players can't somehow see.

:imwithstupid: Right on.

A word of advice: since it takes a lot more personal effort to help someone by looking at their map file, you will rarely find this sort of help at the Pit. Sometimes someone is generous though

What I'm saying is: "don't expect it all the time".
  • text slightly edited in order to improve its grammar......
.....and change its meaning entirely, now I look back at it  Oh well, that's the problem with lazy spelling (not my fault guvnor).
