I'm fairly sure this is just the browser caching the image, as it happened to me too.

Apologies for the trouble.

This login issue will also be the cause of the "Upload validation failed" message when attempting to add a new map.

I'm not certain what could be causing the issue, but I have a feeling and have made a change to the database that will hopefully resolve the problem.

Please let me know if things are ok from now on.

I don't know if it's a bug or not, but on the beta version of the site, the images for the map spotlights were set to load randomly from their assortment. Now they load the same images every time. I liked that feature, can you bring it back?
Implemented.
Fixed a problem with the 'users online' system that was causing incorrect user ids to come up on the online users list.

Web Page does not load in OPERA browser at all.

IE8.0 Name ( WELCOME NAME ) is pushed over the Snarkpit logo, over the word MAPPING RESOURCE.

Unfortunately I can't replicate this issue:

Could you possibly let me know which version of Opera you are using and which OS you are on, as maybe there is a bug somewhere. Thanks

Ok, so internet explorer 8 is really NOT working well with the snarkpit, so i just downloaded firefox and it seems fine now.

anyways, i found this very weird bug about the snarkmarks.
I made a map, and Riven rated it 3 stars. Then i had 70 snarkmarks.
Then i went to the forums a bit and suddenly i had 41 snarkmarks.
Right now, when 2 more people rated my map, i have something like 19. :(

Go to control panel > snarkmarks and see what it says m8 (should be a breakdown)
Thanks for posting those errors Muhnay

Very weird... those are server side errors and shouldn't have anything to do with the browser :/ Confused.

I just dl'ed opera earlier and tried it and everything was fine... logged in, posted using it etc.

hmmm :/

It doesn't say anything except for this:

You have 19 snarkmarks!

none from articles
none from downloads
18 from maps
1 from forum posts
none from correctly answered questions

I know whats happening now, its deducting your snarkmarks because your getting "low" map scores.

Two things about that larchy:

1) I don't think snark marks should be deducted for having a "low rating", perhaps we could give them like 20 or something for submitting a map, then additional marks depending on what their map gets, and it should be based off the average maps rating not quantity of ratings, if a map has a score of 3/5 and another person rates it 3/5, the marks should then not change.
2) 3/5 is very much so a positive score, so marks shouldn't be taken away.

This is not actually the case. Snarkmarks are never deducted - this was discussed during the beta and it was decided the possibility of people having negative snarkmarks was a bit silly :p

I had made a mistake that meant a certain value was not updating correctly when something was rated, and this value affected the multiplier when your snarkmarks were being calculated.

Niborius - the issue is now fixed, but your snarkmarks will still show 19 until you visit control panel > snarkmarks, as visiting this page recalculates your profile's snarkmark total.

I've also found the issue with the 'validation failed' error when you upload a map using IE8 - I'll work on getting it fixed this afternoon... it's a problem with the new upload progress scripts not running properly on IE (IE7 doesn't work at all)... probably a DOM issue somewhere.

Yeah... we chopped and changed the ratings system a few times, and looks like there are still some gremlins. Have made some more fixes! Hopefully, fingers crossed, everything is ok now and you should have 51 snarkmarks which is what your profile is showing as I post.

Its good people actually care about the snark marks. They should be effective in spurring participation.

These last few post gave me an idea. See the suggestion thread...

I think "Aaron Da Killers timezone" should be renamed to "Australian Eastern Standard time" :D

Also, some things about submitting articles.

1- There should be a preview article button.
2- If you enter a example file or thumbnail, you can't get rid of it, you can only change it. I accidentally put the thumbnail in the example box field and can't get rid of it.

Hitting the 'theme' button fixed it yesterday, but it came back today. The theme button fixed it again.
I'm guessing that maybe there's no default theme set, as part of the warning message is something about a config.php file not existing.

When viewing this new map: http://www.snarkpit.net/index.php?s=maps&map=3198

-And scrolling through each of the 10 images uploaded for it, after you've reached the 10th image and you try to load the next one (number one) or the one before last (number 9) it won't load them and shrink because it won't load any more images. Refreshing the page is the only supposed fix. :leper:

Yeah, the sp_green style referenced in the error msgs in the screenie you posted (thanks for that, helps a lot!) hasn't existed since last september so I'm a bit confused as to how it's still around in your browser's cookies!

There is a default theme set, but for some reason that value must have been getting retrieved from your browser's cookie and overriding it with a non-existent them. I've added some code to catch any more problems like that, so should be ok from now on.

I also believe this is the same issue Muhnay experienced when he was using Opera - I should have twigged from the error message but obviously didn't look closely enough, sorry! :D

Spent a while improving the way nested quotes, missing quote tags etc are all handled. Should be more robust now :)
Edit:

lol good grief, just checked that thread. No wonder the quotes parser was struggling :p

Looks like theres a missing close tag in your post, which the new code handles without barfing on the output... the orphaned tag just doesn't get processed.

Ahh... you mis spelled a [/quote] tag as [/qoute] :D

Is there a way we can make smileys work without having to be seperated from other characters by a space. For example:

Blah blah blah :).

That one always gets me and it looks silly to both get rid of the full stop all together and put a space inbetween the full stop and the smiley, plus putting the smiley after the full stop dosen't make sense either if there is another sentence after the full stop.

This should probably belong in the other thread (sorry Larchy and admins ;( ) but can we please have a preview feature for tutorials, I couldn't even see the latest tutorial I wrote until it was approved.

Edit: Ouch, text is way to hard to read!

When you login some unique bits of info are generated to identify you. One of these is based on your ip address, the rest are generated randomly by the server.

These bits of info are stored in a cookie in your browser, and in the database.

Each time you browse to a new page these bits of info are retrieved from your cookies and validated against the values stored in the database for your user account.

If the information does not match you get the "oops, there was a problem..." message.

I can't understand where in this process things are going wrong for you. If you login in one browser, login in a second browser and then go back to the first browser you'll get the message because the login in the second browser will have changed the info in the database... but if you aren't changing browser or changing IP I can't understand where the mismatch could be occurring. Possibly there could be a problem setting cookies on your browser, but I don't really see how this could be.

I can't replicate in FF3.0.10 (which is what you're using, you gave the .exe version), nor any other browser. Noone else has mentioned any issues, and the login system hasn't really changed significantly since last summer :/

Very sorry but I'm struggling to understand what is going on and so can't do anything to fix things unless you or someone else could suggest any other possible factors?

Well we already talked about it, and those error messages were probably because I logged in on my PSP too (just saying for others). But I can't remember i sent you the .exe file?

I can't seem to change my avatar. I can enter my new avatar into the custom avatar box on the 'change avatar' page and it'll say 'update successful' after I hit the update button at the bottom but my old avatar will remain. I can swap to one of the cat avatars and it'll work, but when I try to upload the new avatar it'll say it was successful but the old custom avatar will return.

This is the pic I'm trying to get working:

It uploaded to my pit fine, which is nice :p
I've tried three other avatars to no avail. I've cleared my cache to no effect.

This happens under both IE6 and Firefox 3.0.6

Yes, I read the thread, saw that suggested, did it, saw no effect, then posted.

But it works now so hooray!

Another bug: The post count doesn't update itself sometimes. If you close your browser and go back it is.

Another bug which is pretty obvious: When I quote a player called (for example) [RDC]Twitch, this is what happends:
[RDC said:
_Twitch]
It's because there's an ] in the name, so "it" thinks the quote's name has ended at that point.

I think the 'Hall Of Fame' could use a bit of work. :(
