That's right, A brand new L4D slated for release in November this year!

Here's one of the better articles for you guys to read about it:
Rock Paper, Shotgun

Here's a link to the E3 presentation trailer:
Some Youtube copy of it...

If you'd like to get a nice high res download of the video go here:

Frankly I'm stoked! A new boss Zombie, plenty more campaigns than the original and more versus. It's going to be way bigger; more weapons and new characters.

Also, there will be more of a story this time linking the campaigns together. So I can't wait until we get our hands on this. It's not just new content, but a whole new game. Everything has been ramped up a bit more. The director is smarter now, -now being ale to change weather conditions and better placement of items and weapons, so that you really may not know what to expect. It will be less predictable. What do you guys think about it?

Holy shit! I'm on my PSP currently and can't see all the vids, but it sounds awesome!
Will it run on the source engine? Otherwise my pc can't handle it.

I'll probably complete the game offline first before I go online

The amount of conspiracy theories (ZOMG, it's a TF2 prank, it's all going to be a free update, ZOMG) and plain hatred (way to cash in with a second part to an unfinished game, Valve!) is amazing.

I'm kinda leaning back as a neutral observer. Valve is getting incredibly good at making trailers, that's all I can really say about this.

Gametrailers.com is a good site to view trailers too, and you don't need to download them to view in HD.

That's true, but That link was the first one that offered an actual download for the trailer (in case you wanted to have a copy of it for yourself) I honestly didn't think about gametrailers. But yea, they do offer high-speed viewing of nice HQ videos.

Not just HQ, even HD :D
And you can download trailers at Gametrailers too, or wasn't it there yet by that time?

Personally I thought L4D was a complete game, maybe there were a few tweaks to be made (melee attacks, witch aggravation), but what game doesn't?

I think L4D2 is meant for the Xbox 360 now. L4D on the 360 can only have so many updates go so far before they just need to repackage a new game to the console goers.

Also me thinks this L4D2 might be packaged with HL2:E3 as a "Zombie box," this might be valve's way of telling us "we're not dead, we're still working."
I'm kinda leaning back as a neutral observer. Valve is getting incredibly good at making trailers, that's all I can really say about this.
Agreed. Valve is good at making trailers, which makes me ask the question: is this source? It seemed like the shaders and models were much more detailed.

what i cant believe is the realase date! nov 17.
thats waaaaaaay to early, nobody has even had a chance to make any campaignes for the first one yet.

so unless this is just an addition to the first witout any engine changes or seperate game files i believe this could indeed kill the game entirely.
why because if another is out soo soon before everyone gets bored with the original, than the fan base will be split in half, all the fanboys will jump on the 2nd's wagon while all the hardcore will keep playing the original.

so even if you are making a campaign for the first then wait it out and realease it for the second, since there wont be many people to play it for the first anymore.

i dont know!

it just doesent seem right, i would also think valve would have waited much longer to send out a sequel.

That date is probably in "Valve time", which means it will probably come out Q3, 2010.

I believe it was mentioned somewhere in this interview, that L4D2 is compatible with custom L4D campaigns.

Yeah, I don't want to kind of be the party popper but when I heard about the Left 4 Dead 2 announcement I kind of thought that was pooping on the community a bit, and when I say poop, the poop is really runny and slightly acidic and has bits of carrot and corn in it and really has that brown colour to it.

I mean, Valve has released a squeal to their multiplayer game not even a year after the first title, I know there was that one DLC release for L4D but way to support a game Valve, I'm really quite unimpressed even though I don't even own the game.

I already think it was bad enough that they delayed the release of the SDK for L4D (whether or not it was intentional or unintentional it's a poor choice I think) but now there going to really disappoint all the modders who are currently working or wanting to work on some content for the first game. I hope what you said is true reaper47 that the custom content built for L4D 1 is "compatible" with the squeal.

I really hope this Left 4 Dead 2 is just essentially a big DLC release or an expansion pack and not a brand spanking new game as the name suggests.

At least they are capable of supporting a multiplayer game properly, Team Fortress 2.

Edit:

I'm just reading up on L4D 2 and apparently the original campaigns are being included with L4D 2, I can't believe it! I hate to rant about Valve because I think they make good games, but I'm sick of this "repackaging" and separating the games they make. I mean, Half-Life 2 Episode 1/2/3 (I've always been against their idea of "episodic content" even though they don't release the games as frequently as they said they would), selling Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2 deathmatch as separate games is silly, constantly reselling their older games with their latest releases, sometimes I think they make the individual release of the new game purposely expensive to make people 'think' the package is cheap, although The Orange Box was a fair/good deal, Two short/medium AAA singleplayer experiences and an AAA multiplayer experience for $50 on steam is fair I think, plus they included the past games in the Half-Life series (other than Half-Life 1 which they should have I think) which I suppose the fans already had, to get you up to speed.

This article and interview with one of the L4D2 project leads explains things a bit better.

Tbh I got L4D when they had the half price thing on, but even if I'd paid full whack the amount I've gotten out of the game is one hell of a lot more than 90% of games.

I mean, people are (and have for years been) paying $60 for generic rail-shooter console games that have about 8 hours play time.

I can understand the frustration at there not being much time for mappers/modders to produce content for the original before it effectively becomes obsolete, but if maps will work with the sequel too then maybe it won't be an issue.

All those whining about paying for more campaigns etc sound to me like ungrateful kiddies who think they're owed free entertainment. Go to the cinema and price up the $ per hour value, then see what amazing value something like L4D actually is. I can't imagine people with proper lives and a bit of perspective moaning on in the fashion of all these steam forum malcontents.

"oh noes, game isn't free, boycott!!!"... geez, give me strength

Possibly L4D3 will be 4 valve employees gunning down hordes of rapid 'fans'.

Well, after reading the other two articles posted by reaper47 and larchy, I'm becoming a bit more accepting for the new release. Beforehand, I was like most everyone else in that it certainly wasn't characteristic of Valve to do such a rush-release for a title they know they could get paid for. -Almost like milking it for what it's worth. Of Course I think we should give them more credit than that!

I haven't read about them including the original campaigns into the sequel, but I see that as a bonus, not a re-selling or re-packaging of already marketed content. Aaron, if you have read the article posted by reaper, you would see that there is more to the game than what has been released. Think about it, what they mentioned (from larchy's found article): "The game will ship with five new campaigns, new weapons, new characters, new Special Infected, updated Common Infected, melee weapons... and a new game mode." -And they were originally planning to make this content as DLC! Read: "changing the way the finales worked, introducing some new Survivors, giving new dialogue, telling more about the story, introducing new Specials." -They saw all that they wanted to do for the game and realized that this was more than what DLC packets could justify. They couldn't add these as small changes over time because "It's not nearly that easy with Left 4 Dead, where one change affects nearly everything else." So what we can expect in November (or whenever Valve time puts that) is a new fully realized version of what L4D could have been.

I personally also like the idea that you can buy HL2DM as a separate game. Imagine how satisfied some people were to be able to buy their favorite part of Half-Life 2! -This is something I wish activision would realize when Call of Duty: World at War was released with the 'Nazi Zombies' addon you unlocked as you beat the game. I don't know if any of you had the chance to play it, but it is loads of fun! I wonder if the new survival mode on L4D took inspiration from it? The addon was so popular that they added a new map for it as DLC, but you can bet: you have to pay for it! -They got so many sells for it that they too are turning that addon into a new game. Great news! -But if you still want to play the original nazi Zombie game, you have to purchase AND BEAT the entire COD: World at War game to do so. Woudln't it be nicer for the lot of us if we could just buy the mini-game separately like Valve so thoughtfully did for their games?

If you have new work you want to release that happens to be iterative of previous work, wouldn't you too want to offer new-comers a better way (and price) of getting their hands on you're previous content in order to experience the 'full package'? That's what Valve is doing. They sold us EP2, Portal, and TF2 at the full retail price and tacked-on their older work in order to let new comers experience the 'full package'. It was a good deal from any perspective as far as I'm concerned. Did you recognize the stand-alone price of Portal, TF2 and EP2 when they made retail? -They added up to the price of the Orange Box, but you wouldn't buy them all separately, you'd buy the Orange Box. Or if you were just interested in Half-Life, you could buy the Episode Pack. I don't see how anyone could argue about their packaging method?

I'll shut-up now with a quote from Doug Lombardi:
"I think the short answer is: trust us a little bit. We’ve been pretty good over the years, even with L4D going back just a few months, about supporting games post-launch. Gabe’s always talking about providing entertainment as a service – it’s not about making a game any more. That’s one point of it."
