Doesn't your new camera have video editing software included? When I bought my JVC some 3-4 years ago, I got a program with it called Power Director. It was quite bad at some things, but it had the ability to create DVD quality video files.
I guess if it doesn't, you can use software like "Any Video Converter".. I'm not entirely sure of how legal the program is, but as far as I know, it's completely free for download, and if used properly, the quality can be very good.

I will check the visa program, but I don't recall seeing it..
My camera saves only to avi. It does have software, that converts to windows media files.. "WHOOHOO!!!"
No, I want to be able to burn dvd's so I can send the disc to my family. If I only wanted to view them myself, I could just view them on my own pc.
The only reason I posted was to narrow the list to quality programs, that were of course FREE TO USE.

                        Orph,
Does your family have a computer? Why not just burn the AVi's to DVD as is and send them along.. why convert them?

I'm gonna assume you're serious and not pulling my leg. Very few DVD players will play an AVI, unless they are specifically designed to do so. I just so happen t own one, but they are rare, unless you specifically want one, you won't have one.
AVI is a totally different format, than what the average DVD player has. Some will play MP4 format, but here again, I would need a quality AVI to MP4 converter.
My parents specifically, do not own an PC, so I ned to make them DVD's that are compatible with their players.
Sadly, my documentation with my camera did NOT specify avi format and now I am forced to find an alternative.

I live in a city 10 years behind the rest of the country and I find DivX players all over, BestBuy has a great selection, give the a look-see. Or better yet buy your parents a laptop, or an old used PC stick a video card in there with a s-video output and hook it to the TV..

The terms are interchangeable everywhere. I was referring to the possibility that I could be Finnish, or Swedish, or French, or Italian and using it as an example to demonstrate the hypocrisy of Orpheus accusing me of making assumptions.
That has nothing to do with the racism remark, which was directed toward his comment of "British assumption" - which is clearly some sort of racial derogatory remark.

He's making a point about easily found, cheaply available DVD players that support the medium - that page, incidentally, lists its results in USD.
And yes - "typically British" - Britain is a proud nation who plays host to surely well over 100 nationalities. larchy could be Ugandan for all we know, but his flag is UK - he MUST be beset by TYPICALLY BRITISH values for living there - as if such a thing exists as national profiling which is surely the most ludicrous concept ever.
Anyhoo, i'll back off - British reserve, and all that.

Yeah, well... emotions get the better of everyone from time to time.
We should probably just move on.

How exactly am I going to make you? I have no authority here, I am just another poster. That doesn't change the fact that you repeatedly post absolute drivel.
Oh, would you look at that. Right on schedule you made another worthless thread. And so it goes.

Toll Sr. is Orph, or have you not paid attention.
Its funny you sit there and attack me on every level and say my post suck, and tell me to shut up, but then fight for the freedom to discuss anything on here. So I am confused.
Yak ignore me if I am so stupid, it should be easy to do for a person of your intelligence. Why would you feel a need to attack someone far less superior to you, unless you feel threatened by me in some way?

All this arguing, AND ASSUMING I DON'T LISTEN, when all along it was other parties not listening to the original request..
So fucking sad.
Allow me to clarify some things.
1) No one asked for a DIVX compatible dvd player, so the post was a waste of time writing.
2) I own a DIVX player, it won't play the avi file that my camera records to, HENCE MY REASON FOR NOT ASKING ABUT DIVX PLAYERS!!!!
3) My original request for assistance was answered by my brother with his copy of nero 8.
So much angst... Please just learn to answer the questions posted, AS THEY ARE POSTED, not anyone else's interpretation of said posts.
Thanx guys
