Well, their privately hosted event for Portal 2 was suppose to take place this evening. http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/16/portal-2-coming-to-e3-valve-hosting-event-monday-june-14/

However, they stated Portal 2 is delayed so the event won't be Portal 2, it'll be a surprise, in any case, it takes place this evening PST, I imagine.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

SURPRISE! We fooled you. :naughty:

Following yesterday's humorous re-imagining of its Portal 2-themed E3 event, Valve has been in contact with the world of the press with some bad news.

"Just a quick note to clarify the Monday Press Event at the Regal Theater is completely cancelled. Please do not head over there expecting to see us

"All the Valve E3 activities are being held in MR514 during the show. If you still need to make an appointment, just let me know.

Cheers"

This is all she, or rather the Valve press office, wrote.

Gabe came out during Sony's conference, confirmed PS3 version of Portal 2 and it'll be the best console version, also it'll have Steam integration. I can only assume that entails SteamCloud, Cross Platform, and Updates.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

THIS is the surprise?!!? Oh man.. it's not even relevant to most of us I was in great hope of Half-Life.. I guess there's still time for something else, but unlikely that anything else will happen.. Maybe they did this to make everyone think that's it, and they're going to do something else but.. very long shot.

No. They still canceled their conference of whatever they were going to announce. They were probably doing this anyway not instead of.

Just found these E3 videos at Tom's Hardware.com:
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/portal-steamworks-portal-2-e3-trailer,10672.html

Looks like a nice upgrade to the original game. Don't know if these have been posted yet.
Too bad I'm not in the industry, E3 is held about 20 minutes from my house. I actually got to go twice through a connection that I don't have anymore!. Bummer.

Well, this might be great news for the PS3 heavy users out there, but not so big for us PC guys. I wish we could have seen something more of a surprise, but since we didn't heres a fake release:

Valve is making: Duke Nukem FOREVER!

Man, Portal 2 is looking AWESOME!

Nevertheless, that's cool Valve made their pact with PS3. I'm guessing your PC stats would sync up with your PS3 Steam stats? -Or will the two forever be separate entities and/or services? I'm beginning to wonder if this new symbiotic relationship Valve has struck up with PS3 is going to flourish into something of a permanent home for Steam on consoles. I wouldn't be surprised if Steam becomes the proprietary service for the next PlayStation.

So, it's a pretty big surprise, just not so much pertaining to me I suppose. But more people on Steam > I'm all for that!

Incredible! Simply brilliant! Valve just has that heart and soul when making games, unlike many others, they really make you feel the game. Also, if this is still Source, I can't even begin to imagine what Source 2 might look like.. Let's just hope I don't die any time soon from unexpected causes and never live to experience Valve's continuing legacy - magic.

I would be extremely surprised if that happened, especially because Sony is building a free and premium PSN network that works very similarly.

I think what's happened is, basically, Valve wants to be able to update their game whenever they want, and they can't do that in the PSN/Live structure. And it looks like Sony is the only player who said "yes, you can adapt it for PS3" where Microsoft doesn't relinquish control of anything so they denied allowing them to work that way.

I don't think any sort of game buying aspect will be possible at all. I think it'll mainly be for keeping the game up to date. Cross platform play doesn't seem likely either.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

He he. Yah that looks like source, almost as it is.I'll bet source 2 will be very cool to work with. Maybe a sandbox style editor would be nice (but probably too much to ask for), like Far Cry.
E3 is an amazing place to hang out. The last time I was there, Microsoft had a private showcase by invite only to check out Xbox 360 prototypes, and I believe Valves big deal was that Russion mod for the original half life. I remember playing it at their booth. Metal Gear Solid(I think) was the big tech demo on the giant screen if I remember, and Sega had a huge ridiculous over the top display, two stories high with dancing babes in funny wigs. I'll tell you though, both times I went, I got alot of schwag to drag home. (Canvas bags, t-shirts, tech demos, (I even got a whole star trek DS9 game from one vendor). Really great way to kill 10 hours!.
