With the excitement all around the world at fever pitch, I wonder how are our, more computer, technology based people feeling about the World Game.

I for one am excited as anything! I got my eyes on of course Australia, but also Italy, Germany, France, RSA, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Argentina and Spain. They're all my favourites I guess. I wouldn't mind Slovenia or Serbia doing well either, since they're close to my origins.

Who are everyone else's favourites?

Haha! Yeah that's what everyone says here because they sent us out of the last World Cup with an unfair penalty. But that was just one person, we can't take it against the whole country. All I know is I'm missing a lot of sleep over football/soccer.

Heh, yeah, it was absolutely horrible, amateurish from our part.

Netherlands, along with Spain, England and Argentina, one of those 4 is going to win the World Cup is my guess.

You mean England? No I wouldn't write any body off just yet.. even though Australia is... yeah if anyone is in trouble, then we are. A draw is quite a good result for USA against England, I could not believe it.

I'll be going for Netherlands tonight Nib, I wish I placed some bets on them  but I didn't. I'm almost certain they will thrash Denmark.

Yeah, I was going for Netherlands in that game, put money on it also. Terrible news for Australia was the awful refereeing which led to our draw with Ghana. :(

I was at K-Mart yesterday picking up some lawn furniture for my aunt.. when you own a truck I think it must be a requirement to haul shit.. anyways, The guy in the electronic section was screaming his head off about a robbery, and how the refs were raciest and just angry.. watched as the guy was fired on the spot by some manager..

Found out some goal was not counted and it was a tie game instead of a US win.

Uhm... 3 days and 3 hours since the last post was made on the Snarkpit... Woah I don't think I've ever seen that before, it makes the Snarkpit to look a bit dead, so to prevent that, I'll just make a post. (I wanted to make one anyways :D)

Well, good job again Holland :D 2 - 1 Keep going on like this :D :cowjump: They are doing really good so far.
You have to admit that goal at 0:25 was pretty sweet :hee:

Yeah we do often tend to have those periods of time where nobody says anything for days... I guess nothing interesting's happening in the world lately  (World Cup, Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill, Australian Prime Minister resigning.. nope, none important enough :P). I guess the disappointment of Valve's lack of mention of Half-Life at E3 has us all down in the gutters. ;(

Anyone else seen the first half of the match of England VS Germany?

It was 2 - 1 for Germany. Everyone is sure that England actually has 2 goals, but one didn't count because the keeper picked up the ball quickly and it looked like it didn't go entirely in the goal. Well, if you see the replays it's clear that it WAS inside actually.

Wonder what will happen.
edit: Well it wouldn't matter anyways since Germany won with 4 - 1.

Yeah, but it would have changed the dynamic quite a bit if England had put in two goals in two minutes. Either way, with Canada not in contention I'm rooting for Germany all the way, though the next match against Argentina won't be pretty.

As a Canadian first and a German second, I'm also just happy the USA won't win.

It's being talked about everywhere, because it is eerily similar to a situation that happened in 1966 when England won the World Cup. They were allowed a goal that didn't cross the line - against Germany! That's why many are calling this revenge/karma.

I am actually very divided over the quarter final game. I absolutely ADORE Argentina, and I WORSHIP Germany, I just cannot go for one and not the other..

Either way, I am going all the way for either Germany or Argentina, whichever comes out on top. :)

I second that, because if they did, then they'd have to play Germany, and then either way it would not have been a pleasant place for an American.

I was actually in Austria sitting on a bar stool outside watching that last USA game. Enjoying a White Russian (my fav) :drink: and secretly getting excited for USA's demise around my American peers.

I'm happy because I've seen how riled up Germans get over here. The whole city of Berlin becomes super crazed when there's a Germany match. And the whole Tier Garten (like Madison square Garden in NY) in the center of the city lights up around the Victory Tower. -It's quite the show. Flags get flown EVERYWHERE and there's a constant roar of people and televisions on every restaurant store front cheering.

Either way, like I said, I wouldn't want to be an American here in Berlin if there was ever a match like that, we'd either get laughed at, or snuffed by. So, my trip gets to be better for it now, and that makes me happy!

Funny you should mention that Riven. My dad and my little brother went through München on their way to Croatia, and he told me their airplane was full of Germans, who went absolutely crazy in there watching the game live. Hmm I'm actually quite impressed that the airplane had live streaming of the game, don't know how they managed that.

Having said all that, I, a person who has absolutely no German blood at all, was screaming at the top of my lungs when Germany was scoring. Love Germany!

Yeah, I saw it. Even though I placed about $30 collectively on Brazil winning or there being a draw, and losing all the money, I have always liked Netherlands better than Brazil.

I'm just disappointed in my money.

Even more drama though, in the Uruguay vs Ghana match. Absolutely amazing, high class entertainment. I was still upset because I lost money there too. I had a bet going that Uruguay would win at full time..

Hah ya, for the weekend, my friend and I made it to Amsterdam in time to see like the last 5 minutes of that game. So, when Holland won, it was fun to see how excited the Hollanders got compared to the Germans back in Berlin. :cowjump:

Amsterdam is a much smaller city, but packed in very closely, so the noise was much louder here. The mopeds, motorcycles and cars, honked everywhere we went, and it lasted for a good 4 hours. We made our way to one of the plazas where we were told there was free-wifi available. Of course, the Burger King we were trying to get into (which had the free wifi) had a huge crowd in front of it. Once we got inside, I took a picture of the crowd:

So, ya, I'd say The Netherlands know how to party.

Battery running low, and using wifi at a cafe so I have to go now.

Go Holland!

Between Argentina and Germany, I was simply going for both equally, because they are my two favourite teams, and I said that I would go for whoever won this game all the way. Now, that Germany has won, I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

Absolutely amazing! Haha also amazing was that I fell asleep at Exactly the time the goals were scored, and was woken up by the commentator (it was 4am and I hadn't slept much). That first goal was probably the best of the tournament.

I knew Netherlands was going to come far and I was going for them in all the matches. However, should Germany beat Spain, I'll be going for the Deutsch, sorry Nib, they're just amazing.

Congrats to Spain. Sorry Nib, I still do believe that the Dutch deserved to win. The two chances by Robben should have been goals. Spain had next to nothing happening.

Apart from De Jong showing off his Karate skills and a couple of other bad tackles from Netherlands in the first half, they played very well against Spain.

Maybe next time Nib. Then again, I am putting down my predictions for Brazil 14 right now: Germany will win.

Sorry for my late post in here, my PC wasn't on for 2 days.

I'm over it already. I found it really disappointing first because... well I think that's obvious. But they came far, and they did very well. They also played fair in every match. In my opinion of course!

True. I'm starting to think they might put different foods in each box. A preferred food in one, and a bad one in the other, so then it's not actually the octopus deciding really, but the experts.. Then again, they always get it wrong too, so, pretty good by Paul the Octopus!
