I have a major problem right now. And I cannot do anything until it is resolved. I accidentally moved my main map toolbar off screen and I cannot get it back no matter what I do. I tried messing around with all of the different views and even changed my computer resolution but no luck finding it. At first I thought it would be easy... just check the box for it under views, but since it is not actually closed the editor thinks it is being displayed, but wherever it is displayed at I cannot get it back. I also messed around with the configurations too but still nothing.

How can I get it back? Like I said I cannot do anything right now until I get it back. Thanks so much for the help!

How about trying to change the orientation of your screen in Windows?

Otherwise, have a second monitor lying around? :hee:

I just tried the issue myself (almost getting mine stuck into the side as well, Nothing I tried at the moment (I don't have a second monitor to connect to yet) didn't fix it. That might be a common error with other Windows programs though.

The second monitor thing that Riven mention is not such a bad idea actually :)

But perhaps you could first try to change the resolution and who knows, maybe it comes closer into the screen again.

Make sure your graphics drivers are in single screen mode and see if it doesn't return to that screen ...

If it's just all the way to one side, there will still be a pixel or something sticking out you could try to find ...

If that isn't floating the boat, you can try resetting all preferences: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Resetting_Hammer_preferences

Try some other crap too, like turning the toolbar on and off.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

If I understand what you said, you didn't move it, you removed it. Add it back again. There is no way that it could have slid off the edge of your screen as if there was a "To be continued on next monitor" sign somewhere.

The best things in life, aren't things.

Thanks for all of your suggestions but I am still unable to get it back.

Unfortunately the toolbar was not removed, otherwise adding it back would work. But somehow it is not removed, the view screen still says it is being shown and I've tried removing everything and putting everything back again but still nothing. The toolbar still stays in its unknown location.

I think that I will probably have to try to uninstall and reinstall Hammer. Also, thanks for the Regedit instructions but I do not feel comfortable using that; I would rather just reinstall. Thanks again everyone for your ideas.
I just tried the issue myself
How did you get it back Riven.

Well, I tried it partially. I moved it to the side but not all the way (so I could still grab it) And see if changing resolution or orientation moved the window around.
Because once it's undocked from the side, it acts like a separate Windows' window but parented to Hammer [when Hammer minimizes, it will minimize]. and I work at the highest recommended resolution of my monitor, so when I lowered that, it went completely off screen. That's why I'm pretty sure, that if you were to add just a few more pixels to your resolution, you'd see enough of it to grab it.

That's all I did. Sorry, :/

Thanks for the explanation. But my resolution is already the highest it will go so I can't make it any higher. So I will probably just have to reinstall Hammer anyway. Thanks anyway though!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I was able to get it to work. First of all changing the windows resolution did not work. However, I had the idea to try and change the compatibility mode by right-clicking on the hammer exe and going to properties. Then I found a box under settings from the compatibility tab that said to run in 640x480 screen resolution, so I checked that then I ran Hammer and part of the toolbar was visible along the top. So change the screen resolution from the exe compatibility tab did it. Thanks again for all of your help!

Good to note, as I could see this happening in similar windows programs.
