For our more regular members, you might have noticed that SnarkPit's news postings have gotten a little stale as of late. Well that's because the owner admin of the site has been a little tied up getting his future in order and thus the future of The SnarkPit.

Essentially, since last September, I've been tied up with my graduate studies, and finally getting my degree in May. Since then, I've been looking for work in the games industry as a level designer/environment artist. With no luck on that front, and realizing I was approaching that possible career goal wrongly, I went to my plan B which was to stick to my degree's home turf: Architecture.

So, since July, I started looking for work as an entry level architect all across the U.S. I was only able to visit Austin TX, since it was close enough for a job scouting trip, and I knew it has a burgeoning video games industry and hi-tech hot spot. But I went there looking for work in architecture.

I managed to find a job and move there. (so anyone in the Austin/Round Rock area, give me a call!) I've been getting settled in my new apartment these past couple of weeks, but I think once I get on a regular schedule, I might try to pick up some level design time. and maybe more news updates and feedback on the Pit.

I just thought you guys deserved an update if you cared to know at all.

If you do end up in Texas you'll find a whole new breed of people I promise. Even though I hate the state, I do have a few fond memories. I really love where I live now but its not for everyone. Its Mayberry in spades.
Good luck and the phone works both ways.

Being a fellow Coon-ass and moving to Houston, I have to say I adapted to the Texas way of life pretty quickly. They are good people and I hear nothing but good things about Austin - good food, beautiful girls, great music. What more can you ask for? I guess good weather, but you can't have everything.

Good luck with your new job and new life!

Thanks guys!

@Crono, of course, how could I forget!?!

So far Texas is an upgrade for me with its infrastructure over Louisiana. The roads are all nice, and the speed limit feels right, and Austin itself seems very well laid out and developing. I mean, I don't find myself getting stuck in traffic for very long. That's the opposite story I hear with Dallas (including my own experience there) and other large(r) cities.

It's the same heat I'm used to in Louisiana, except without all the humidity; so standing in a shadow actually makes a difference. I'm happy. Also I realized there is a Fry's Electronics here so I'm satisfied with my electronics fix. :D

@Finger: The food has been very good, and I have yet to check out the music scene, although I'm aware of 6th street and Austin being the live music capital. Austin feels very young to me and full of growth. Yes it's somewhat liberal, which I think comes with the territory of a large university and tons of young people. So it feels 'hip' if you ask me. It would be excellent to meet some fellow SnarkPitters now that I'm here. :nag:

@Mazemaster: I wondered if you were still in Austin or not. If so, I'd like to meet up sometime; I'm sure I could learn a lot. And thanks for the welcome. I feel at home here, at least for the near future.

I plan to stay here as long as I can, to work towards my licensure as an architect (takes about 3-4 years) and I have to work under an architect while I do so; so no game industry yet... But as of now, I'm not afraid to change disciplines 5 years from now and I think Austin is a great place to meet interesting people and maybe get involved a little. I do plan to get back into mapping, but more importantly working on updating this site. I've started freelance web design work and might try to apply some time with SnarkPit to make it better. Now that college is over, I can have a regular schedule that I can plan projects around.

Thanks again for the kind words :)

Andrew is there too. Did'yas get in touch with him yet?
He also sings praises about Texas. Truth be told. All it tells me is just how bad it was where he used to live to make Texas seem good.

I'll take Oklahoma any day. :)

Funny you mention that. I just so happen to be looking for someone to build me a website. Nothing complicated. Respond here, or mail me at redwood37@gmail.com if u have the time and you're interested.

O! congrats on the whole moving forward with life thing. I should probably do the same. but, uhh, ya, fuck that.
