When you play the game with 3 buddy's (or 7 when playing the great versus game mode) you'll get to see Left 4 Dead 2 at its best. Offline wasn't too bad imo although the stupid AI could get pretty frustrating.

Have you tried survival yet?

I cannot get past the beginning. The stupid AI team mates keep getting in my way. I haven't killed them but I have shot them so many times they call me names.
If I don't help, they die so, I just take the verbal abuse.

But, I cannot seem to like it when all it is is shoot 500 undead people. What kills me is no motel/hotel or rooming house in the world has that many people in it so where the fuck did all the people come from anyway?

Anywho, as I said. I will reserve judgement for my online experience.

Yes, you need to play with people.

And the idea behind any zombie outbreak is that 80%+ of the population is infected and free roaming everywhere as well as migrating. They don't sleep or anything, so if a large portion of them are shambling around all the time, it wouldn't be ridiculous to see a bunch of people.

And a lot of the areas are places that fell like evac zones, so it makes sense that there'd be an abundance of people there if prior to being infected ... they were all shoved into the hotel for evac or medical care. Any number of things could have happened well before the character's you're playing as entered the situation.

At least, that's the idea behind it.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Yeah Orph, I struggled at first with it, it's an all in the reflexes game and mine ain't that quick anymore. You mostly have to stay ahead and kill zombies or else your npc's get in the way and you end shooting them half the time.
I stopped worrying about that after awhile and figured "F... it! If ,I shoot you, I shoot you, just keep bitching."
Took forever for me to finish the game, now I gotta go back and see everything I missed the fist time around.
Oh, and great talking to you the other day, we'll keep in touch I may have some more pc's. I heard them talking about recycling another school's soon.

I can see where you are coming from Adam and it does make sense from that perspective. I admit, I didn't give it much thought past "Where the fuck did all these people come from?"

and

Yes, it was great to finally get you on the phone.
Like I said though, don't go way out on a limb and don't be in a rush.
Its too late for Christmas this year prolly. I might get one or two up and running but on the scale you mentioned?

I usually start around June hitting up people for their old PC's. That way I have some time. It's not as easy as it once was with me not home so much. It takes a bit longer now.

Anywho.. Keep it in mind guys. I need your old PC's for 2013 Christmas. ;)

(PC compatible parts too will be good. Older, but not obsolete video card. Smaller hard drives. and lan cards too are ok since most have them onboard but not all.)

The game is well paced for a human characters. It's strange to me, the Special Infected AI is top notch (it seems), but the Survivor AI leaves much to be desired. It is definitely a sub-par experience to purchase the game and limit yourself to the single-player variant only.

Multiplayer brings with it all the strategy you would actually debate about when taking something like a zombie apocalypse seriously. Or you could just take your chances with random group-mates when playing online. Griefing happens less since L4D2 (in my experience), but it does still happen. The best experience is to play with people you know. It's a game of teamwork and frustration, so your patience will be put to the test... but in a fun way! :p (not like with the AI).

The most rewarding parts are when you barely make it through a chapter, (which the game is balanced to keep you on your toes). So when surviving a deadly encounter from a hunter leaves you thanking your team-mates, it makes it much more fun when you know who they are.

Heh, I've gotta go with Orpheus on this one. When Left4Dead came out I thought it was some awesome singleplayer game from all of the uproar over it but man was I pissed when I found out it was just a multiplayer coop game! I am one of the old school that don't see a game without a proper singleplayer element as a full game. Even in multiplayer fighting hordes of zombies must get boring after awhile. Give me Half-Life anyday!

@ Flynn: Yea, fighting hordes of zombies does get boring after a while, and it's why I eventually uninstalled it from my laptop. Of course, it's not meant to have an enthralling plot or background story (a lot of which was done through web comics anyway). That was intentional in order to enjoy your own story with your teammates.

I feel it was a full game in the sense I knew what I was getting after owning L4D 1, and the levels and additional gameplay modes made it a bit more varied and a lasting experience overall. I did end up playing it more than I did with L4D 1. It's no Half-Life, but for what it is, I was satisfied and I felt it kept the 'conversation moving forward' for multiplayer games.

I am in agreement though: I want and adore my SP games. I still prefer sometimes to play simple point-and-click games, like Machinarium and Botanicula. which like platformers, feel like a 'back-to-basics' game. They make for a much more satisfying experience when you know you can discover every little nook and cranny of the world. I think SP games will continue to champion First-Person Shooters as a popular gameplay and accompany big MP titles like Call of Duty, because people still want their well-authored stories.

I don't know how it could have been miss-construed as a single player game, from its announcement to its release, Valve has always said this is a multiplayer game.
I am one of the old school that don't see a game without a proper singleplayer element as a full game. Even in multiplayer fighting hordes of zombies must get boring after awhile. Give me Half-Life anyday!
You're not the only one, I'm on the same page. Which is why I don't care much for the call of duty series, the single player is repetitive, boring, and at many times difficult to play and understand what was going on (EG: Whats that? a Nuke launched? How was I suposed to know? I look up in the sky and I get my ass killed from an invisible soldier that somehow managed to walk right past my allies -> COD:MW2 snow mission with the submarine nuke launch).

That being said, id like to point out: the single player campaign in the L4D series IS the same as the multiplayer missions. The only difference is you have potential ass-holes playing your allies when you play multiplayer.

Personally I thought the L4D series was a BLAST! I recall playing with Riven, and some other snarkpitters and it was fun-as-hell. Orph - Get some friends online and play! (I would join, but I'm in between living spaces) The game enters a new dynamic once you move to playing with people you kinda-sorta-not-an-asshole know.
