A Charlotte, North Carolina man, having purchased a case of rare, very expensive cigars, insured them against (get this) fire! Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of fabulous cigars, and having yet to make a single premium payment on the policy, the man filed a claim against the insurance company.

In his claim, the man stated that he had lost the cigars "in a series of small fires." The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason that the man had consumed the cigars in a normal fashion. The man sued -- and won! In delivering his ruling, the judge stated that since the man held a policy from the company in which it had warranted that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that the cigars would be insured against fire, without defining what it considered to be unacceptable fire, it was obligated to compensate the insured for his loss.

Rather than endure a lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance company grudgingly accepted the judge?s ruling and paid the man $15,000 for the rare cigars he lost in the fires. After the man cashed his check, however, the insurance company had him arrested on 24 counts of arson. With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being used as evidence against him, the man was convicted of intentionally burning the rare cigars and sentenced to 24 consecutive one-year terms.
You can't help but smile at that. Serves the guy right.

sad but true..

a woman purchases a cup of coffee from mickyD's

promptly places it between her legs to hold it while she drives

exits parking lot, and smashes cup between legs due to bumps in road.

burns tender regions of anatomy

sues mikeyD's

wins suit.

IMO, woman needs shot.

Didn't someone sue McD because they didn't tell her the food was unhealthy and made her fat?

even though the second part is obviously bollocks, it does bring to my mind the question : if you started 24 "separate" but related fires, you could get 24 counts of arson and be put away for 24 years or 24 times the arson sentence?

Realisticly, I don't think each cigar would be treated seperately.

The whole story is similar to this story I heard somewhere, which is probably fake, but it sounds similar:

In one state in America, there is/was a law that no person can drive on their own and at least two people should be in the car at once. A woman was caught driving on her own, but claimed since she was pregnant, there were in fact two people in the car. She won the case, but was then arrested for having two people in the driving seat!

As I said, unlikely story.

Don't use America as a basis of stories about cases won and loss, you'll almost never find out whether they're true or not.

Hell, I heard that there's a town in Texas in which got rid of their law enfocement, because it's a small town, and then required every occupant of that town to own a gun, which they already did.

But I have no idea if it's true. Anyway, that story sounds semi-realistic, except that, an insurance company would never insure cigars against fire, unless they kept them in their possesion or at a bank or something. They're not morrons, I mean, they've been scamming the general public going on 200 years or so (well not really, but I'm being sarcastic so it doesn't matter).
