Is there any way to use CoD textures in Hammer or when making a HL map?

I assume the only way would be to grab a texture extraction program for CoD, get the source images as bitmaps, and then use wally or whatever to put them all into a WAD. I can't imagine there will be any specialist programs for converting directly but I could be wrong.

hehe sorry it just sounded appropriate. But why not just use the default hl textures? Everybody loves those!

Have you seen the CoD textures? They're GREAT!

Plus, HL textures are way overused. Like you said, EVERYONE LOVES THOSE! Well, I don't think they love them, they just dont have any other textures to use (and they're too lazy to go out and find some custom ones)...

considering the odds of you releasing a map, i suppose its safe to tell you

almost any quake based game can have its textures converted to HL.

i say almost cause i haven't done them all, but all i have done were successful.

use pakscape to extract them from the pak.

sort out which you want to use, and then have wally convert them to HL format, name it and save.

load the new wad into hammer and you are set.

your only issue may be sizes, some of the newer quake games exceed HL's 512x512 limit. in this case either resize them or cry that you missed the chance to use it too.

hope this helps.

Actually, if the game uses the .pk3 files, then just open them up in Winzip and extract away.

burns my ass, when i see a correct answer ANYONES correct answer marked incorrectly

someday, someone will search out this and find out winzip didn't work for them.. yes it works, i have seen it, but i have also seen it not.

anywho's maybe thats enuff..

the REASON i am bitching? because edges answer does NOT mention how to make a wad.. and thats the topic of this thread.. not cause his answer is more correct on extraction.

thats interesting tho korn.. does wally handle that particular format?

if not, you'll be needin a pain editor i imagine.

KoRn, how is it stealing? It's just as much stealing as using someone's textures from HL, using a different mod's textures in HL, or finding textures off the internet.

Orph, sorry that I didn't check out your suggestion but it just seems VERY tedious and when I read the thread Edge had already posted. His suggestion seemed more logical.

The topic of the thread says "PAK to WAD", so yea, I'm wondering how to get textures from a PAK into a WAD, but I didn't need to know how to make a WAD or anything, just how to get the textures out.

Provided the proper credit is given, and the original author hasn't stated they are NOT to be converted for another engine, I see no problem in converting them.
