Now that's what I like to hear! Now if only they'd fix the lag, the FPS aspect, the physics...

Oh, so they're using the fresh new ideas from Command and Conquer Generals... looks like a hit already!
Sorry, shouldn't be so negative. Gotta wait and see

AND it will require the same type of modem that NASA uses to comunicate with the Hubble Telescope.

I think anything more than 20's pushing it really. Battlefield was fun with friends, but sucked with bots/single player.

Your right Jeff, but Planetside isnt a full-blown FPS, its just got parts snuck in is what ive seen  .

It is a full blown FPS depending on what you decide to be. If you are a pilot or tank driver/gunner, then obviously not, but there are definately indoor areas where players work in small teams. I think any of the troops get a first person view after their dropships have landed.

My flatmates have been making good use out of the 7 day free trial of planetside and love it, it is certainly an FPS at heart, even if it does have vehicles and things (and what FPS DOESN'T these days!).

It may have the potential for that, but whether or not you will see any lag-free servers over 30 or so people is still questionable. The real limitation is more in hardware & bandwidth I think. It takes one hell of a connection to run a big server. Given how few 25+ player FPS servers I have been on that don't lag like hell, I don't know that you'll actually see many BF2 servers going over 30 anyway, even if it is theoretically possible.
It's certainly enticing, though. I've been in a few 30 person UT2k4 Onslaught games, and it was just amazing - you really feel like you are in a large-scale battle. With two or three times the players, that could be incredible in BF2.
Wonder how 'hard-wired' that 32 player limit is, couldn't Epic or EA simply release a patch upping the limit in UT2k4 or BF1942?

They should find ways to use faster, cheaper connections. My dad signed us up for DSL Ultimite (or something). Its basically a lot faster than normal DSL; but only five extra dollars a month. May have potiential; may not.

If it can now support 100+ players, people wanna start organising their own LAN parties  ! i organised one focused around codename eagle (bf's prequel) and had around 20 people attend
easy to run and the most fun youll ever have with those two games, as the internet support is quite frankly awful.

I can easily find ns servers that have 30 people and ping in the lower 20s. I think BF1942's problems stem more from coding than from network connections.

sounds like codename eagle, even dsl/cable modemers had trouble.. it never took off, but became a cult hit on the UK lan scene. worth a try perhaps

Yeah, I think this kind of thing would only work at a LAN. I regularly attend LANs with 400+ attendees, so I'm sure BF][ will get a whirl one of these days.

I just imagined a 100 person game of Onslaught in UT2k4 with multiple Leviathans on each team. It felt like that high you get when you eat really good cheesecake or kiss an amazingly hot girl. Yum.
yeah the lan bit could work out nicely for BF2. hell, maybe arcades will make a comeback if they ever get a brain and tap into this kind of massive multiplayer stuff.

I am on 512/128 ADSL and I find BF1942 runs just fine for me on servers with up to about 44 players online, then it starts to flake out. I connected to a 64 player server once, it looked like the other people were having fun, but I was watching a slideshow with near constant "Warning: Connection Error" messages,
So maybe we will see most servers with 75 - 80 players instead of 100
