Anyone else noticed that in your profile the amount of snarkmarks you have attributes to a named ranking?

He should really post a changelog or something similar... I don't think my heart can take all these amazing surprises.

And because of perhaps the morality/social suicide (yes, I know this is largely a mapping community), Gorbachev?
And I'm a snark spawn... but I don't want to be. This has motivated me to make maps that aren't s**tty and perhaps even good. Either that or just make a billion killboxes.

I can't find my snark label thing? Also, it says I have made more posts than I have snarkmarks, so does this mean I have done something bad to get marks taken away? Or do you not get a mark per post?

You are a scabby old HL1 snark - you can find it at the bottom of the left hand side bar on your profile. You don't get a snarkmark per post, though your posts are used in the calculation. If you search the forums you might be able to find the fomula used to determine your snarkmarks, though I think Lep may have changed it quite a bit since then.

I never noticed because I never cared about how many points I had got... I only saw now because I was interested in what 'rank' I had 'achieved' I say let posts count to marks, it's not as if the marks get you money or a free luxury holiday!
/me hopes to be corrected on that

I agree with that last bit wholeheartadly...
EDIT: This was in reply to orph's post!
/me glares at Wild Card
Seriously though, if the snarkmarks per post ratio is really low, then it does no harm really. Tutorials, reviews, critiques (perhaps map author rateable, so great big critiques get more snarkmarks for the writer than a couple of bug reports), maps, and editing help should certainly make up the bulk of the score.

i agree duncan.. critiques are not as simple as people think, the process can be daunting, why else are there so damned few done???
i don't wanna over rate them either, but i do think them of a higher value than reviews, only because it helps create better maps, reviews are only done when its complete..
i await being corrected as well

Critiques affect the map, reviews critisize... therefore critiques are more useful to the mapper, but reviews are useful to 56k users because they want to know wether the map is worth waiting 10 mins to download

I always aim my reviews primarily at the potential player (as well as pointers for the author) - a critique is more or less purely for the author of the map.
I dunno, I guess it just doesnt make sense to compare them..

I guess it isn't so important to have map reviews anymore, because most people who play online can download any potential map in about a second and try it themselves. I think concentrating on helping people as they make their maps is a more useful focus for El Peet 'in this day and age', so to me critiques are more important than reviews.
Orph, I think he meant that it is easier for a 56Ker to read a review that takes a few seconds to load than for them to download a map that they end up not liking. He wasn't talking about your crits

I hold them in equal regard - critiques are more useful as a development tool, but a review is like your little bit of glory (or shame). It feels like the legend of your map - critiques are gone and forgotten once they are used, the opinions of reviews are stuck in my head for much much longer.

No problem, I'm sure I commented on it ages ago but its one of the ones I never went back to remake once all the comments and things went missing (did that happen, or am I imagining that?!).

i agree with everything you said duncan, but cannot help thinking, reviews are more intended to be ego boosters, or worse, they can end a mappers career.
but the lost critique you mentioned, i dunno, it has to be more valuable simply because its a vital step to the completion of the map, for which there would be no review otherwise..
i don't wanna give the wrong impression, i wanna do reviews myself, if its possible for me to do so.. and i do not plan on short changing people because i feel critiques are more valuable, i will give it/them 100% of my efforts as well.. but i just cannot see them as equal at all..
sorry to disagree, but thats ok, doesn't make me right after-all

Do the ratings for your maps/tutorials/etc. get counted in the calculations? I know your user rating does...
