k, How do I loop an ambient_generic? do I have to keep retriggering it after its time period or can I do something else?

I haven't got Hammer in front of me to check cos i'm at work, but doesn't it have a 'tick box' to 'loop sound'?

EDIT Actually I might be completely off what you mean anyway - I don't tend to work well without Hammer in front of me

That's a little prefab that will loop anything for you.  This is how it works:
  • Trigger_auto starts MM (multi_manager).
  • MM retriggers itself after the desired delay (needs multithreaded flag ticked)
Some sounds have a special key encoded into the WAV that makes them loop auto-magically.  If you don't know how to insert this (I don't), use the above setup instead.

No, there is a tick box like you say.  It's called "Is NOT looped".  It allows you to STOP looping wav files from looping automatically.

you are partially right...

they removed the "looped" flag about 2 upgrades ago...

none of us have figured out why..

so.. if korn was still using 2.1 you would have nailed it bud :heee:

First thing to test is whether the sound plays at all.  Don't bother with the fancy looping stuff, just see if you can trigger it with a button.

If you are mapping for HLDM, you start in the sounds directory.  You don't need valve/sound/vox/c.wav , only vox/c.wav .

(it's valve/sound singular- Lep.)

i think i put mine, in a folder of my own..

valve/sound/music

you can put it any folder you like, as long as its within the valve/sound folder..

listen to gollum.. trigger it some other way first..

via button, or triggerAAA

if it plays at all.. it can be looped with his prefab..

one step at a time my padawan apprentice

Yeah, its just im using steam so everything is in a cache I cant see & had to make the folder myself. I was using sound. Changed it to sounds & now I guess its probably worked but steam is getting stuck on "verifying resources"

Now, I remember whenever my brother tried to put ambient_generics in his map all it would do is stay on "processing sound" & never load the map up. Im guessing mine is doing exactly the same.

Have you experienced this before?

i suggest, if you have the room.. install HL, VHE, and everything else you need to an alternate place..

steam seems to be causing you grief ATM..

my sounds, always work if..

1) the path is correct, no typo's

2) is in the HL accepted format..

scan a stock wave file that came with HL.. make your sound the same..

k, steam looks for sound/
so ive changed that back.

I'm pretty sure my triggers cant be wrong but I cant hear the sound being played at all tbh.

Im stuck on this one

ok do what i did..

1)varify sound.. click on it in its folder.. if works,

2) check its format, HL is damned picky, it must be right, compare format to functional stock wave files..

3) place a stock sound in a test map..

4) if it works, replace it with yours..

5) if it works, THEN we can loop it..

remember you can onlyent compile for this..

Good advice there - break it down into lots of simple steps and you'll find the problem.

Try the one in my example: vox/c.wav

And if this is what Steam does to HL, I'm certainly not downloading it before I finish my map

thanks. Well in the end I find that my music .wav file just doesnt work for some reason because replace dh_sunken_music.wav with c.wav named differently works.

thanks lads.

ok korn.. this is what i would do..

1) use this program edge submitted to me earlier this week..  http://www.dbpoweramp.com/

2) after you install it.. open it and locate the file you want to convert..

3) select wave

4) select change format

5) put in the values you want

should do it for you..

if it wasn't a setting bud, it wouldn't be an option would it

its clear as a bell.. you might consider altering your settings.. you might have issues with them in their current form.. experiment.. it only takes a moment..

nah, the only thing that puts it onto a fast speed is turning off filter textures & that means that everything looks wobbled & dodgy.
