That is some improvement! You seem to have gone from some noise claiming to be metal, to some pretty impressive stuff. The stone walls are the best looking ones in my opinion, nice work there.

BTW - NEVER again will you post bitmaps.

Never....

They are good texture except for the 2nd one. It looks like the fuzz on your T.V. when the cable goes out. Maybe if you tweak it some you could turn it into an animating texture just for that purpose.

You're already better than half the texture artists in the universe. Keep at it. Don't be afraid to use photos as bases, filters can only take you so far.

Nice work although there is quite a bit of contrast around those cracks. Did you use an alpha channel to create the roughness in the surfaces? Thats one technique you can use in photoshop although you are using PS correct?

(looks around a second...... vanishes back into the fog  )

Did you learn how to use layers properly or something as "big" as that? I must get back to my texture studies...

Pepper: If you must know http://www.relmoftyrants.co.uk/TMTuts/Tut5_CARSW.pdf

OtZman: Thankyou.

Cassius: I highly doubt that I'm better than half the texture artists in the universe, and thankyou.

Grimlock: I did not use an alpha channel to create the roughness on the surfaces I did this. Created this User posted image used the "Quick Texture Mixer < a little tool in the program" with this User posted image and should have something like this User posted image.

Pvt.Scythe: I did not learn how to use layers or anything "big" because I don't use Photoshop.

PS: how do you get some text like this "here" to a link? thanks.

For your information other programs use layers too. Photoshop is not the only drawing program out there. The GIMP for example is another useful tool for picture editing. :grenade:

Every complex photo program uses layers. Photoshop is just the the all round best (Yes, it is). GIMP is like a mixture between painter and Photoshop ... but free.
Painter is for well ... painters, there are so many things you can do its mind boggling, unless of course, you know how to use the items.

I have been actually using a program that came with my windows 2000. It's called Picture It 2001. It is like photoshop but has been dumbed down a lot and can't do nearly as much. It is usefull enough though to make textures like coke machines, glass, and signs. I use it to make simple textures then use wally to put them into a wad file. I have Jasc Photoshop but I havn't gotten around yet to learning it. Once CS:S comes out though I will start making better textures.

gimp is just as powerful as photoshop in the right hands as it happens
Crono, if not more (script fu > you  ) but, for interface and ease
of use it's way down the list with any microsoft windows product.

the only thing it has riding for it over PS is that it's free, and you
can use it with all gfx tools, on linux (if you are a solely linux
exclusive linux user, that is). i wouldnt recommend to most people
though, you have to be a bit windows savvy, let alone *nix based savvy
to understand that program. and sadly, most wannabe IT pro's/artists,
aren't :/

Hmm... Well, I just download GIMP. Gonna give it a look, it does indeed look like a very powerful program, assuming you can manage the awful interface.

Actually, I meant Photoshop is better since it's not ugly (Because of the interface).
As for actual functionality, I would have to say Photoshop is better, since there is an entire community writting plugins and tutorials for it. (Which is much larger then the GIMP community. As you said, Gwil, "you have to be a bit windows savvy, let alone *nix based savvy to understand that program. and sadly, most wannabe IT pro's/artists, aren't".)

However, GIMP is a great program. I use it whenever I'm on my SuSE machine. (I'm probably going to slap SlackWare or Gentoo on it one of these days. Especially because X decided it doesn't like running anymore.)

for raw work on a texture, psp is the s**t.....for the finite haevy detail, psp doesnt come close to ps, and bear in mind, this is imho..... the vast difference in price is what still slays me....wow!

Doc Brasso... :dodgy:

and nooba, i think you have an excellant start on.....keep at it....woot!
