Full resolution (3200x1200): http://www.kungfusquirrel.net/miscpics/bighammer.jpg

Unfortunately, the texture browser takes focus from the rest of the window and the visgroup and entity drop boxes can't be resized for better fitting into the editor. BUT we still have:

X - 1600x1200 screen space almost entirely dedicted to the grid
X - Larger camera view space
X - Easy access to textures (if it worked; I'll pester autolycus a bunch for it and maybe they can sneak it into an editor update  But not likely  )
X - second smaller grid area at higher zoom for depth adjustment (like the Z- window in Radiant, though that doesn't get used much) and to fill space to keep camera aspect normal.

Whee. Unfortunately, it didn't want to save my settings on close

I don't really like it. Why don't you use hammer anymore?

Well aren't you cool for using 2 hi-res monitors at once  You're going to need glasses at this rate!

Hey, I was just curious how well it would work and how well the independent window configuration could be abused into doing my will

every time i got a bigger PC, or bigger monitor, or more powerful video card, i tried turning the resolution up to give the impression of more space, each time i turned it back down to 800x600 cause the head aches were so bad..

personally, i think its cluttered andrew, but i also feel, whatever works you should use it.. i remove everything from hammer i think non-essential.. to make the grids have as much room as possible.. but i also want them 4 corner style (default i think)..

shrugs

i cannot imagine a resolution as high as you quoted

It sounds like your monitor is to small. The absolute limit a 17 inch monitor can handle is 1600x1200, and that will probably have damage to it in the long run (my old monitor lost focus, most likely because of my res). If you were to go higher, your screen will "flicker". Its fast enough you visually can't see it, but your brain can, which results in the headaches. Just don't let your refresh rate go below 70, and you'll be fine.

my being old wouldn't have a thing to do with it then?? man, i was scared i was getting to old to map.. :heee:

i have an excellent 17" monitor, and its set to 85hz

its my vertigo bud, looking at tiny objects just aggravates it.. i think i will stick to my 800x600.

True.

Atm I have 1200*900 @ 75Hz and a while back I had 1024*768 @
85Hz. I have a 17" btw. However, two screens seems very nice,
especially when mapping/modelling or working with programs like
photoshop etc.

I have always used 1024x768 and will always use that setting. Back on topic now.

Pretty cool layout, though I don't think it would be too suitable for me. I'd want to keep all 3 grid views on one screen probably with the texture browser open in place of the 3D view, and perhaps a near full-screen 3D view with the visgroup and entity controls on the other screen. Sort of thing you'd need to play around with to find your preference though I guess. Not much point me fretting over it without a second screen though is there

Wow, mines at 1024*768 and I've always kept it at that, maybe because my monitor is only 15 inch

17" monitor, 1152x864, 85hz. Used to be 1024, I think I went to 1600 once (damn XSI editor thing, need a bigger monitor) but couldnt stand it for much more than 5 or 10 minutes.

Its OK orph, I'm only 16

And I just happen to have possibly the coolest monitor ever on the floor in my room... a 14" Wang. Much innuendo ensues.

If i had 2 screens i would have the camera window on it's on screen. Or i'd have hammer on one screen on tuts on the other. (I need them!) Anyway i suppose if you like it like that then it's fine. Wateva you feel is most comfortable is the best, personally i prefer hammers default but thats what i think.

It's a shame that people prefer different layouts because some times tuts confuse me - where all the buttons out.

I will always use Quark. Its much faster and it allows better camera movement in the 3d view.

it does? i can see you staying with it for familiarity, but the 3d camera has been perfect since 3.3.

maybe you are thinking of 2.1

I plugged two monitors into my PC a few days ago. They're both
running at 1024x768 at 75hz. Haven't tried mapping with them yet,
though that would be really neat. At the moment I just run AIM
and Winamp on the right, and I browse the Internet and write music on
the left. It's pretty sweet, all you need is a crappy PCI video card and you're good to go.

I actually wrote a techno song because I was inspired by having two
monitors, but I need to work on it some more before it's really ready
for general consumption.

I still use a 15in monitor and im not really willing to pay through the nose for a 17in. Besides, i don't have to turn my head around with such a small monitor. Im also working on an invention that will revolutionize viewing confort for computers - KEYHOLE size monitors! I'll clean up! Wahaahaahaahaaahahahahaaaaaaaaaa (sorry, i forgot to take my pills today  ).
