I am learning as I go on this one. I'm hoping to actually finish something for once. This map was one of my favorites back in the HLDM1 days. I played it mostly on AG in tdm2, arena, ffa, and sometimes lts. I'm hoping to get it close to the original but it is a remake and the new engine and editor can make it so much more. Feel free to post comments or helpful suggestions. I may or may not use them and will most likely try to mention all the help I got.

I changed the ramps to staircases as per suggested in the beta comments. I am now working on tweaking up the displacements a little as well as adding in some junk that I think should stay but be different from the original (if you know what I mean). I also want to tweak the lighting a little more.

Have you asked TommyD for permission to remake the level? I'm not
really sure if you are legally oblidged to, but it would be a nice
gesture. He already expressed an interest on the AG2 forums in doing
stalkx for HL2/AG2, though I'm not sure if he is still planning it.

As for the map itself, it looks fairly true to the original but doesnt
look to really improve on it. I also think the lighting should be, like
the original, brighter. StalkX was always a map loved for how it plays
not how it looks, and being well lit so as to make players easily
visible was one reason why it worked.

Thanks Reno. I always appreciate your thoughts. I couldn't find who made the map, I was going to ask. My copy had no readme unfortunately (probly in a pack or something). Now that I know who it was that made this famous invention I will cease all remakes untill I get his blessing. Thanks again.

I still have it. Not sure what tommyd is doing. He keeps bouncing back and forth from doing a new one to not doing a new one. Well from what I have seens anyways. I may still continue doing it cause I can't get an idea for a new one in my mind.

i say this again, it is a courtesy, not a requirement.

listen to your heart, any other consideration is irrelevant.

If you do plan on continuing it, I think it would be nice to choose a
different name so as not to give the impression yours is the "official"
sequel to his level.

try using the thesaurus, i found "Ambush" to be a suitable replacement for the word "Stalk"

i have not seen your map nor do i have any personal interest in it, but i feel its a waste of time worrying about the feelings of some mapper, to busy, or to unreachable.

i respect many mappers, and may alter the looks some to keep from looking out right stolen, but i doubt i would ditch a map simply because i couldn't obtain their permission to use their ideas. in most cases i am their peer so permission is not particularly on the top of my list of importance.

Good tip. I started on it again and once I finally get the yard area how I like it I will post the map again with a new name as well. I will also start a new forum post for all you to help guide me. I appreciate the help for a noob mapper like me. Once again, thanks.

Call it "Princess Sparkles' Magical Shiny Tea-Party Castle." I found that in the thesaurus, It means the same as "Stalk."
