I am still fighting through HL2, and I am currently along Highway 17, having the first encounter with the gunship.

I used up all my ammos, but the gunship is still running. What do I do now? Should I revert to a saved game and start over and try to have more accurate aim?

Search for rocket ammo crates. Usually they're around when you're facing gunships or striders.

Or you can just use your driving skills to get outta there... like I did the first time...

Ah, interesting approach. Thanks Captain P.

I am hoping to release the Justice map soon, but I've got a bad case of the flu and mapping burn-out. So I'm taking a break from mapping and playing the game instead.

I bet most people finish the game first before starting to map (like you did, beating the game soon after it was released). But I actually started mapping before I even started to play! What a hardcore mapper. I just finished Ravenholm today.

Search for some teamates that will give you ammo when you need it  They should supply with atleast 1 rocket when you need it, maybe 2... I'm not quite sure.

Thanks. I must have terrible aim. I might not have the laser guide pointing at the helicopter when I fire, because most of the rockets end up flying around and not hitting the target.

I've used up all the ammos in the crates I could find, and all my teammates are dead. I am such a lame Gordon.

Which one is this? The very first gunship after you're given the rpg by Col. Odessa? There's like 20 rockets and probably a rocket ammo box spread out in that area. If you can't kill it with that many shots you'll never stand a chance later in the game...

Yeah, I know. I need to learn how to use the RPG better. I usually have very good shot with other weapons, but the RPG is kinda different. I hope after I get the hang of it I'll have a better chance at surviving the later stages in the game.

But I didn't find 20 rockets. I only found about 5 or so. I guess I need to look harder.

It's really easy to take out gunships. All you do is get yourself some cover, fire the rocket into the air away from the ship, then point the laser at the gunship after giving the rocket some time in the air. If you do it right you'll fire the rocket past the gunship then hit it from behind when you target it. It will focus on trying to shoot you until it's too late.

Ah, that's the trick. I wasn't using the rocket launcher correctly then. I used to aim the laser guide at the gunship and fire, but then I hide in the corner while the rocket flies blindly at random location in the air. I think there has been times when the rocket came right back in my direction because my launcher was pointing at the wall across the room.

Thanks for the tip.

You should have listened to Col. Cubbage!

Valve was very intelligent about their ammo work, though. The endless grenade and rocket boxes were a great idea. Keep an eye out for those, and as long as you can stay alive you'll have all the shots you need.

I was trigger-happy when I got the RPG, and I left the room when the Colonel was still babbling away. I just heard something like aiming the pointer at this and that. I went straight to the roof to (try) shooting down the gunship.

Silly me.

Indeed, Valve used clever thinking with those ammo supplies. Basically
it lets them make sure you can only defeat a gunship or strider when
there's ammo around, as the amount you can carry usually isn't enough
to kill one.

The main thing is it doesn't punish you for using the weapon in normal circumstances from the normal ammo packs scattered about - you don't have to save all your ammo even when there's tempting combine guards sitting around on high ledges...

Heh, amen to that - the ragdoll physics lend themselves to fun games of
combine launching.. dropping grenades at their heels or launching them
forward with an RPG blast is always satisfying.

Even more so if you get them to clear a fence/railing  I had a corpse
lie atop the fence near the duct access in lockdown the other day, was
rather spinkee.
