For anyone who uses shortcut keys solely, or knows a bit about the
newer one. Would you happen to know why now you cannot use Shift-C
(camera) to move around while you have the texture application prompt
open anymore? In the older versions I can select a face, and then
camera around the solid to select multiple faces that are out of view
without it defaulting back and closing the texture application
properties.

It's not life or death, but it slows me down because out of habit I
keep trying to change my view while texture application is open but it
closes it when I change to camera. Anyone know where/if a setting
exists for this?

oh oh!
i think i might know this one, have you tried pressing 'Z' to toggle in and out of camera view-mode.. then you use W-A-S-D to move the camera pos around..
You can do this whilst using the texture application tool. and simply press z again to turn it off

But i may have missed your point/query completely...
Hopefully i helped

gonna earn me some snarkmarks!

Hey? I just use WSAD and the cursor keys to move around in the 3D window when I have the texture application tool open.

I notice no difference in this behavior between the old Hammer and the
new one. I can certainly fly around in 3D view and apply texture
by right-clicking.

Check your setup option. Did you accidentally modify something?

I only wish you could disable certain keyboard shortcuts - recently
I've been hitting "shift-w" which toggles snap to grid (something I've
never found occasion to use) and whatever it is for ignore groups
(again, something that I don't often use and can get by with just the
interface button). I don't hit these combos knowingly, it just
sometimes happens accidentally and annoys me each time

By the way, you don't need to press lock onto the 3D mode with z in
order to move around while in texture mode - provided your mouse
pointer is sat over the 3D view you can just use WASD and the cursor
keys alone.

/me wonders if there is a lights.rad style text file you can edit for hammer?

i bet a customizable shortcut option would win some power points. prolly even get those stupid QuArk holdouts to switch over. :heee:

I'm reluctant to give the first reply as an answer because it's not
quite the same thing. "z" worked in the other version as well so that's
not quite what I'm looking for. It's just that when you switch to
camera mode it gets out of texture application. And using ASWD doesn't
have the mouse rotation ability, it just stays on the same plane, so
that's not what I need. And because using Shift-C is a lot more natural
for me than just z since I'm using shortcut keys only I like to be
using the standard toolbar options..."z" seems to be laggier than the
camera mode as well as lacking the camera hotspots.

Orph, I was thinking somewhat related to lights.rad but having a small
program that manipulates that file for you, so it would have a little
brightness slider, colour palatte and perhaps a sample of the texture
and it could have a small database of the entries in the lights.rad
file. I don't know if there's a configuration file for Hammer (which is
what you were implying I gather.) but there might be settings around
somewhere, perhaps in the registry...or there is a little hidden
config.
