with the approach of HL2, the need for much larger texture sizes becomes a reality... as most of you know, i have quite an assortment of UTX textures for download, that are very sweet, and just the right sizes for HL2, but also i need to remove them soon to make room for other file uploads of.... the borrowed persuasion..

anyone whom wants these textures really needs to download them soon, cause i will be removing them by the weekend..

a UTX viewer is also included for your ease of use..

be good

just made a 256x512px texture, Does anybody else use 512px textures? it looks pretty good, but its a horrendous filesize for 1 texture.

there must be a way to reduce the file sizes, because there are a bunch of 1024x1024 textures in there..

they arent that big a file..

Out of interest, are these textures taken from Unreal, or just compiled in the UTX format?

there origins, are lost in the dim past, but U2 comes to mind

why, would any HL mapper switch any texture to UTX on purpose?

seriously tho, i have more than one game with the UTX texture format, i cannot recall off the top of my head, which these are..

i also have some high quality wad files in there from many other origins..

I was just curious as to whether the textures origins were that of texture artists in the UT community (and freeware) and therefore compiled into UTX format, or whether they were directly taken from UT-powered commercial products (and come with a severe wrist-slapping if not careful  ).

they come with no guarantee's and are use at your own discretion..

personally, i don't care who gets them, but really need the room.. if someone has issues with their origins, then by all means KEEP IT TO YOURSELF AND AVOID THEM WHILE YOU DO, otherwise.. i don't care

I do use textures with demensions as high as 512, especially for grasses, sand and rock type textures so the repeat isn't as blatant.

A 512x512 in HL2 is used in the same way as a 128x128 texture was used in HL1. They scale down a lot of their textures to get some extra crispyness, which would be good for HL1 if the engine could deal with it (which it can't).
