I recently got windows xp, and it's great, fast, reliable, and now i have hyperthreading  ... but windows xp has mouse acceleration enabled... does anyone know how to fix this ? i looked in google for solutions and there were 2 : change the mouse values in your registry (which i did, i changed mousespeed to 0 and mousethreshold 1 and 2 to 0 and i put in the counter-strike parameters: -noforcemparms -noforcemaccel
but it still feels weird (i was using windows 98 before) ... has anyone experienced this problem ? or do you just get used to the mouse accel ?

its a common word nowadays, People use it without thinking of what it was intended for. I dont think hes insulting anyone of the kind, Rather just using a word he grew up with. Its playground speak if you will.

err ... this isn't mouse sensitivity, it's mouse acceleration. this is microsoft's idea of "helping users" when in games it ends up just being annoying... anyway to fix it you have to have just the right combination of registry values, screen resolution, and in-game sensitivity to make it work like ole '98 ... sigh, i'll just have to get used to mouse acceleration like heaps of ppl have ... it's just harder than getting used to a different sensitivity ... btw i want a rematch kornflakes, after im used to mouse acceleration  ^_^

I'm not aware of any mouse accelaration change since using XP, but that could be due to my Razer mouse drivers taking control of the mouse movement.

Oooh, you one of those boomslang user are ya? Never could get used to those but my mate loves his. I'm happy enough with my MS intellimouse explorer. To all non-optical users, I seriously suggest you make the change - I was sceptical but optical mice really do improve your game.

Im not sure how it works, and I am trying to find a link to the Razor Beam Ball mouse. I understand it to be a combo of the two.

Oh, even the original Razer Boomslangs use an "optical ball" - that is, the movement of the ball is read by an optical device/laser. This is the "Karna" technology that they advertise.

i have the basic "logitech" opti-mouse, and i wouldn't go back to a ball mouse if someone made me.. i don't know if there is anything better than optical, but for poor people like me, its a godsend..
if you have 12 bucks to spare, get one.. you will never regret it..

What I'd really like is a high-precision, optical, cordless and lightweight mouse.

At work (Can't really say about gaming), I used a Microsoft Optical Cordless Blue, Special edition, very comfy, 2 buttons, and a wheel. Simpler, the better imo. It was top notch for what I needed but like I said not sure about gaming precision.

I saw the Mouse Acceleration thing somewhere, but it's not in the Mouse options. When I installed XP though it was off by default.
I have a 'I' optical mouse or something (no nothing to do with iMac) and it chews up loads of batteries, and recently it has gone so bad that the left button double clicks 4/5 times. It makes dragging impossible (almost impossible to use hammer). That one was ?40.
I also have a Kensingtom optical mouse (?20) which is OK. Double clicking was a bit screwed but my brother fixed that. But the right mouse button only responds 1/5 times.
I also have a ?3 pound ball mouse which is total crap and...
A WACOM graphics tablet (about ?60-?70) with a pen and mouse (the mouse accelerates, but my normal mouse doesn't). The pen is great for drawing though because you can get smooth curves with your hand.
Not much luck with mice though

MS are bringing a new range of mice out wuth faux-leather on them, supposed to be more comfy
[edit]
mouse acceleration will make the mouse move faster if u have a slow mouse or one of those laptop mice where its this tiny little finger joystick thingy which are bloody slow (i had one on a laptop once)

I bought my 2-button wheel optical mouse as an open item for $4. It's served my purposes well, especially since I used to have to hose out the ball mouse under the sink every few weeks.
EDIT: Sim's "I" mouse sounds a lot like mine, actually. A white thing with a simple "i" logo on it, and it sometimes has bouts of massive clicking when you just try to hold down the left button. Probably something wrong with the cord, I think.

Is the 'i' in a crescent, and does the reciever have a circle-inside-circle desing on the top? Maybe they were designed not to last long. Wouldn't have thought somewhere like Maplin would charge ?40 for it. Seems more like something Curry's or PCWorld would do.
