Hello!

So i'm wondering where are all the HL2 models that aren't showing in Hammer?

When I browse the textures, i see a lots of new models (well i see their textures, but so the models must exist then).

I've tried to use GCFscape and browse all the files (HL2 contents.gcf, Source models.gcf..etc..etc..), but i dont see them...only the "authorised" one.

So is it possible to see the others one (if they exists..)? , or did valve restricted their usage or something?

Thanks in advance and sorry for my english..

What new models are you talking about?

Well, when you browse the textures, there is all the "models props" in there.

For example, there is a Mailbox, but i've never found this one in the models.

There is also a lots of "metal panel", and same, they aren't in the models...

So i guess, Valve didn't "release" all the HL2 models.

Nope. Did you guys also notice that there are a lot more models in the game than the ones you can find in the model folders. For example, I wanted to have different frames for doors and windows, but there are only a handful in the model folder in Hammer.

Hmm wonder why Valve wouldn't release all of there models. I mean
seriously, whats the value of keeping a bunch of models to yourself and
not letting the community use them. Or maybe we are not looking hard
enough.

Are you sure they are models and not textured brushes? I remember looking for some models and they turned out to be fancy brush work.

Yeah, Go to sdk_trainstation_05 and look around, you'll find the experiment room from the old game, you now the room where all th aliens came from, and it's all a model...Anyone else noticed this?

satchmo, the 'skin' value in the models properties defaults to 0, but 1, 2, 3, 4, etc may give you new skins, depending on the model. the model that's used for the door has around a dozen, if i remember correctly.

i dont think it would be possible to have models in the game if they didn't exist locally on your own comp.

valve did make some content that didn't reach us in the game, and the textures seem to be a legacy of that. there's a bunch of snow textures that i noticed last night, so either there was meant to be a winter scene somewhere, or they're pre-caching more content for an update. hopefully the latter, but i'd bet on the former.

Yeah that's what i tought, so i've used that mailbox's texture and made a ..yea.. mailbox.

And so i've realised that this texture was indeed for a model, because it acts like a model when you are ingame. My mailbox was totally black, because it was placed on a shadow...It's hard to explain (especially in english :s), but well it's like it receives some dynamic lighting like all the other models (you know, that rolling oildrum (props physic)which goes from a cleaver place to a darker one, will receive differents shadows)..
So in conclusion  , this mailbox has to be a model.

We know a bunch of levels got cut from HL2 even though they were
semi-completed (the icebreaker Borialis, the Air Processor, etc.)
Perhaps Valve removed those models because they were no longer used in
the finished game, and simply forgot to remove the textures along with
them.

Have you tried looking in the actual bsp file? The models you see are probably zipped into the bsps to save complications, just run the map with the unknown model, and use bspzip to get them out, then you can use them in your own map (once you zip those up also).
