I don't think I'll play a Gamecube if I were given one for free. Console games are just not my thing.
And...they're bringing down the price for a reason. Because a lot of people don't want to buy a Gamecube.
Supply and demand...

Im perfectly aware of that, but that doesnt mean its a bad console, or
that nobody wants it. Many shops that stock console games don't even
support it any more, and its clearly just about on its last legs as a
commercial console. Still though, I can vouch for it being a great
thing to have if you often game with mates - 4 player Mario Kart, Mario
Tennis, or Smash Brothers is really a beautiful thing

i dunno about the world, but in Arkansas, they are at least as popular as the xbox.. at least the store shelves are empty of them almost as soon as the game system touches them..
perhaps the fact that i do not play them renders my opinions moot, but they seem very popular here.

The Gamecube might not be that popular in the UK, but its got some great games - and if it goes the same way as the Dreamcast we'll have a shedload of cheap games to follow too. I love my Gamecube simply because no-one makes games with as much charm and playability as Nintendo.
/sales pitch over

The Zelda game coming out soon is reason enough to get a Gamecube...and
I wish they had a deal like that here, I'd buy one even though I
already own it if not for the games, I could just re-sell the console
for the money I paid. It's an underappreciated console by far. Of
any system I've played the GC has the most comfortable controller, and
I've played with many for hundreds of hours.

I have a GameCube and it works great for me. Might not be able to play DVDs, but it's worth it just for Metroid 2 imho.
Interestingly, I read an interview with the makers of "Enter the
Matrix", and they said the only trouble they had during development was
porting to the PS2. The scene towards the end where you're being chased
by a swarm of sentinels was difficult for them because the PS2 couldn't
cope with that number of individual objects, and so they had to use a
special program to "cheat" their way around it. Apparently. Anyway,
just fyi. Kudos to the PS2 for looking damn cool though.

Mmm, Good console.
GC is going pretty strong here ... Most game shops you go to all you see in the windows are GameCube's, GC Games, and GC Accessories. With the occasional new release stand-up cardboard cut out.
This is semi-related, but, does anyone know when ?Wanda and Colossus? is coming out? I kept hearing March ... then May. Now, I have no idea when it's coming out.
Oh, also, if you don't like the GC controller for certain games (fighting) they have a wonderful SNES like controller for it

I highly doubt there have been release dates even mentioned, the game
wasn't even announced all that long ago, and there haven't been any
news updates I've heard about since its announcement. I'd guess it will
be this year, but I would think the tail end of it personally. If I'm
pleasantly surprised by it being sooner, then so be it

Most recent news is that it'll be called 'Shadow Of The Colossus' in Europe, but no release data other than 'some time in 2005'...

Seriously you guy, only reason to get Gamecube is for Monkey Ball! And it's coming on Xbox soon. Monkey Ball is the best game ever! Think marble madness but with monkeys in the balls, and theres loads of other mini games.

Games don't need to be adult/violent to be fun. I don't know why you
are judging the PSP without having played it. If you give the PS2 8/10
for "good graphics", then the Gamecube should get at least the same
marks given that it is superior to the PS2 in terms of graphical power.
You say "think about it" in relation to the Xbox 2, then list current
generation games in the brackets...which quite frankly has me confused.
Finally, if Resident Evil shifted to the "idiot sony company", it would
be PS2 exclusive, not gamecube exclusive. You'll also find that there
are some res evil games on other consoles - PS2 has Outbreak, Dead Aim
(perhaps best ignore that one  ),
Code Veronica, and is planned to get Resident Evil
4 sometime in the future. Not that any of them hold a candle to the
Project Zero/Fatal Frame series, which you should really pick up if you like
survival horror.
Despite all those problems I had with your post, I agree with you that the Xbox is the daddy of the current gen

Dark Killer, do you know what's actually out on the GameCube?
What you're saying applies to the N64 ... the console you probably have a chip on your shoulder from.
Most "kids games" on the console are too difficult for "kids" to play. Seriously, the GC has some of the hardest console games I've played in my life. Especially if it's a rendition from an older system. (Ikaruga is ten times harder then the DC version. So is Twin Snakes)
If GC has nothing but kids games then why is Sony the only company censoring games like BMX XXX and Killer 7? (BMX XXX is ridiculous. Sony "threatened" to not release Killer 7 on PS2 because of it's content.)
The Xbox has the least amount of exclusive titles I've ever seen. Not to mention, I don't think I've ever seen a 1st party game for the console. Every game, in some way or another, is ported to or from another platform. Especially the good ones, the games that are ?the reason for owning the system.?
As far as I can see the only thing "good" about it is the online play ... however, since the architecture of the machine is exactly the same as most home computers, most of the Xbox games are ported (more then ps2 or GC console games) and those usually carry online play as well, and that way you don't have to pay for live on top of a net connection ... so, Xbox is pretty useless in my eyes.
There's just an assloads of games for the PS2. Most of them are terrible, but there are enough good ones to justify owning the system. Combine that with backwards compatibility and you've increased the game base by an insane amount.
Beyond games, purely speaking about hardware, GC is the best out there. It's fast and efficient. Something every other non-cartage based console is missing.
I'm not being a fan boy about this. Look at the specs of all the machines and research the architectures, and if you don't agree then you probably don't understand the implications of each machine.
Not to mention, PS2 and Xbox are the only consoles that when they were first released actually damaged your discs. (First Xbox's ground the edge and the PS2 has/had to sit in a vertical stand otherwise it will/would scratch the discs leaving a perfect circular scratch.)
I suppose a hardware draw back in the GC is that it doesn't play DVD movies ... but I already have several DVD players.
