Shame you can't get access, there is a whole lot of interesting stuff
going on at e3 this year with all the next-gen consoles being announced.
On that topic, what are everybody's impressions so far? The Xbox 360 is
sounding mighty fine to me, but I found it quite funny during their
unveiling that one person said it was the "most powerful next
generation console" just an hour or so after the PS3's stats showed it
to be far more powerful  Nice surprise showing some Square Enix stuff
during their show as well, when people were dubious as to whether they
would be supporting the console or not. The currently unannounced title
they show looks really rather like a new FF title...I wonder if FFXIII
will be an Xbox 360 title? Limited backwards compatability (software
emulated or something I hear - so only SOME titles, those they add
support for, will work) is a plus, but it would have been nice to have
full. Another FF style game in development is Last Oddessy (might have
got that name wrong, I forget), which is kinda a no-brainer given that
its being made by the creator of Final Fantasy who has since founded
new studio "Mistwalker".
PS3 sounds insane from a power point of view, and really is quite an
incredible sounding piece of hardware. Full backwards compatability
with PS1 and 2 games, 256mb main memory AND 256mb of video memory, 2
terraflops of processing power (compared to 1 on the Xbox 360), etc...
But to be honest, look at that controller! What have they done to it?
Its like they thought it would be cool to turn the dual shock
controller into a flipping boomerang! The game line up kinda trumps the
Xbox 360 at this point - with big hitters like Metal Gear Solid, Devil
May Cry, Tekken, Gran Turismo, Grand Theft Auto, Killzone and more
apparently having sequels in development. If all those are early PS3
titles, I can imagine one HELL of a dry period while the next ones in
those series are being worked on!
As for the revolution, well who knows. Apparently their press
conference is today at some point, so we'll have to wait and see. I've
heard rumours and seen a picture that shows the system and controller,
but if they are true then god help nintendo. It was basically along the
lines of a radio controlled car controller - single handed, with
several thumb buttons and a trigger system of sorts. There has been a
lot of speculation over the controller as apparently it will change the
way people play games, but if you ask me it just looked rubbish. Here's
hoping it will just be another fake, like that recent Virtual Reality
headset video!
