Kind of a question, more of a dig at hammer. When using the circle tool, it never makes nice circles that you can actually use.

For instance, an 8 sided shape (an octagon) usually can be made by splitting off 4 edges of a square, yet hammer seems to like to make it off the grid at a funny angle...

Why is this? And is there any way to make it make normal shapes, or is it just easier to make them yourself?

anytime that i need a big circle, or any other big curve, i'll use a 32 sider that hammer produces only as a guide, so that i can line up other brushes against it with the vertex tool. that way there's no danger of having lines running on the grid at a ratio of 59:11, or something just as horrid. or at least not unless you don't care about your sanity.

Everything will line up if you use 8,16,32, etc sided circles.

Still, its rotated so that a point edge is at the north and south...

If you want it oriented "normally" youll have to move the vertices yourself, or make it yourself.

You cannot mark a complaint as if it were a correct answer bud..

As far as circles go, the way one looks in hammer is not necessarily the way it will look in the game. There are compile commands to blend the edges and soften them to roundness so usually just adding more sides will suffice.

If you have trouble making it fit, add more grid virtices, and use whole numbers such as 8,16 or 32 to make the contact points line up.

I have never had trouble making my circles look like circles in the game. :/

The best things in life, aren't things.

I was hoping there was just a simple way to do circles well without using vertices... I know most of the other methods... nm.
