Shouldn't this be part of the recently borked thread? But yer Omega Slayer is right- instal the right drivers for everything, then fiddle in bios with the multipliers. Best check online to see how fast you should make it- don't wanna overclock it too much just in case.

                        two reasons
1) Bus speed isn't set properly, it's probably on some default.
2) The clock speed on 64-Bit chips is significantly lower since they have mainly pipelined processing. So, actual operation speed is NOT a good indication of their performance speed.
Just match up the chip with the board on the manufacturer site and it'll tell you what speed to set your BUS to in Bios. Not a big deal really.

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

For reference, multipliers are locked and you cant change them.

My 3500+ runs at 2.2 stock...
As for board settings, I think my Asus A8V can change both settings but I am not sure, nor do I wanna particularly know since it may tempt me to do silly things to get a marginal speed increase.
As previously mentioned..
1)BE sure exactly what speed the chip is supposed to run.
2)Be certain your chip is not already running at that speed as sometimes you get a false reading. I am sure their is a program that will say for certain. (steam loads HL2 and says clearly what speed your machine is running for instance)
3) check your bios (most machines it is the DEL key, but check your manufacturer as some are the F? keys)
4) DO NOT FLASH YOUR BIOS FOR ANY REASON unless you are desperate and have no other recourse!!!!!!!
good luck.

According to AMD, the FX-series processors do not have locked
multipliers. No idea if this would imply to the 64 4000 as this
was originally the FX53.
Any motherboard BIOS will allow you to change both the FSB speed and
the multiplier, but if the processor is locked, then uppon reboot, the
multiplier value will have returned to default.
The Front Side Bus has it's speed defined by a quartz crystal.
The processor has it's speed defined by the FSB times the multiplier
value of the processor.
For example, my AMD Athlon XP 2500+ runs at 1.8Ghz on an Abit NF7-S
motherboard with a 166Mhz FSB. My multiplier is locked at
11x. So,
(FXB)x(multiplier)=(processor speed)
(166)x(11)=(1826Mhz)
