If you post an editing question on this forum, and someone a possible solution (and it says "does this answer the problem"), please take the few seconds to click Yes/No. It's not hard

Also, if you are suggesting a solution to the problem, make sure you change the box underneath the text field to "this is an answer to the problem"... otherwise this whole clever system won't work.

It's not difficult folks, so please, take those few extra seconds and use this forum how it was meant to be used!

If you had posted a question, this would be a possible answer.

Ok, i understand the whole, click yes if answers and no if doesn't, but what if it's a good reply, and does work for one method, but the method did NOT work for everything that the post was asking?

Truly confused;

Every once in a while, someone asks something which can't be accomplished. Obviously, a solution of how to do it won't appear. The post in question in this case did describe the only way you truly could have accomplished your goal, which was to code your own version of the mod. So I marked it yes.

Like I said, the answers you want won't always be the answers you get.

If something is right, but not applicable in your particular instance, you do not have to make it "no." In fact, I'd prefer that didn't happen, because then people will think the whole post is bollocks, and that's just not the case. Clicking nothing will turn the post into a normal post once a correct answer has been selected.

To take an example: Someone posts "My texture lights won't work"

Someone responds with a Yes/No that the .rad file needs to be in the correct folder.

The particular solution turns out to be that they were using a light texture that isn't in the .rad file without manually adding it.

The response about the folder shouldn't be marked wrong - it didn't solve this problem, but the information is still valid.

Gollum tends to meander with thoughts, and his particular post both included the only solution to your problem, and a theoretical supposition of a hack to work around it. The idea didn't work, but the first half was right. Technically, he should have split it up into two posts.

If you wish to discuss the matter further, you can PM me.

Who, me?

The correct/incorrect answer system is not perfect - it doesn't allow multiple correct answers (unless modded, I guess) and sometimes answers get marked as incorrect when they're actually fairly good (or occassioanally the answer is exactly right). Also, as Cash has said, it doesn't allow you to mark parts of an answer correct.

It's a very rough framework (hey, you don't get much rougher than binary) on which to fit the various possibilities, so it's not surprising that things get confused.

One other thing that should be mentioned - when a post is moved over to this forum from another forum, the board acts as if the question has already been answered. If I see a right answer in one of these threads, like the sky thread currently marked as answered, I will turn the post into a possible answer and hit yes.

now, i have never posted a question here in this since V4 so i might be talking out my ass (as if thats a new concept) but is it not possible to edit the answer as if it were a quote and localize any portion of a correct response as if it were the correct answer?

it seems to me, the biggest area that this system fails in is the acknowledgment that sometimes there are multiple correct answers, and sometimes many FUTURE possible correct answers, and failing to acknowledge them makes the system deny them.

why not make the answers as if they were quotes, and coloring in the portion thats relevant?

IE i give an answer, 1/2 the post is a joke and half real, but only the half thats real has half the correct answer, cause it contains 3 solutions, the person deciding could highlight the pertinent area in my post for posterity.

sounds confusing yes, but possible.

as i read these responces all i could see was varying versions from different people saying the same thing i have been saying since V4 released. i guess for some, it doesnt click over till they see it themselves and word their concerns in their own way..

Orph - "why not make the answers as if they were quotes, and coloring in the portion thats relevant?"

this is more difficult than it sounds, a lot of hassle - for anything, let alone PHP

not worth the hassle (no offence orph)

none taken, my education in coding issues not withstanding, all i can do is suggest solutions, its up to those in the know to use what is feasible.

i am betting, there is a solution along these lines tho.. some solution already incorperated
