Hey it's me :leper: Half-dude

Hey all, I just reinstalled HL and I mean completely, I removed the HL folder. So when I went to compile a map I made before I uninstalled HL it would have two errors

************ ERROR ************
Can't open C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\valve\maps\ch6.p0

and

************ ERROR ************
Error opening C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\valve\maps\ch6.bsp: No such file or directory

I know it sounds self explanitory but if I add something to the map doesn't hammer make a new updated .bsp file?

please help

It looks like you've deleted the old directory structure, meaning that the compile tools cannot output the junk (p0 files etc.) that they need for compiling.

The compile tools do not have the ability to create directories - only files. If the directory doesn't exist, they won't be able to create the file.

If it's so important, you might like to provide us with more information. I assume from the fact that you marked my answer "incorrect" that you do have the relevant directory structure, exactly as specified in the compile log?

Fundamentally, the compile tools are having trouble with read/write operations. Here's a checklist:
  • Make sure all your paths in Hammer are set up correctly. Same goes for any external compile front-ends or batch files.
  • Make sure the directories actually exist and don't have any special write/read protection.
  • Make sure Hammer is on the same disk drive as Half-Life.
  • Use Zoner's tools.
  • Post more information, goddammit! We're not psychic, you know. Try posting your full compile log for a start.

Careful Kapten - you're treading on very deep feelings here. Yes, I truly do love my boulder; I love her with an all-consuming passion that borders on the obsessive. But then that's what love's like, nes pas?

I find it hard to express this without becoming emotional, but I think the lady who sings this song would understand:

http://www.commercialwhore.com/origamiboulder--sarapatterson.mp3
(don't you just love recycled links?)

Er, sorry Half-Dude, this thread has been hopelessly derailed. Best post that compile log pronto before we all forget what the original question was.

What Orpheus said, and you have a screwed up entity. Origin brushes have to be tied to other entities to serve any purpose. Do that first.

simplify the process.
  • download the zoners 2.5.3 tools and USE them.
  • put everything in a single folder, i take it since you placed it on your DESKTOP, that you are not real picky about locale.
  • fix the error fragman posted.
  • recompile this map using all this advice and re-post the new compile log for our viewing pleasure, but i am betting you won't need to cause your problem will be fixed..
  • copy/paste the successful .bsp into your maps folder.

Half-Dude, you may find that fixing one apparently unrelated error also fixes the other. It sounds daft, but try fixing the ones that you know how to fix, and maybe the other ones will disappear  It's worked in my experience before.
