Someone stole Lep's name! http://www.planethalflife.com/potd/index.asp?id=458964

In other news, theres a steam GCF file opener thing, http://countermap.counter-strike.net/Nemesis/index.php?c=74 - it needs the .net framework installed at the moment though.

Woah, Woah. I am not by any means, a DBZ Fan-Boy. I use to play DragonMOD Z, True, but that was over a year ago. Ive seen a lot of images of ESF, and I know DBZMOD, so I can tell the differences between the HUD(s).

Besides, call me a DBZ FanBoy again, and I'll cut ya  .

for about 3 days, so suffice to say I can recognise it pretty well. Its
condemned to a life on the shelf now though

if by "blew the crappy movie out of the water" then yes, it blew huge chunks. it's really a thinking person's action show, which is to say it's not all gratuitous action and there's lots of intricate plot stuff, character development, conspiracies, etc. going on. And the animation is just great.

it just started its second season in Japan, "2nd Gig", which imo already surpasses the first. It moves faster and is focused more on a central storyline, whereas the first season had a mix of 'stand alone' and connected episodes.

Never trust an 'otaku'. :dorky: They are generally idiots. The last time I trusted otaku I bought the box set of Evangelion on faith. Nice series- not great but good- until the horribly moronic ending. Then they redid the ending in a movie... and botched it again. I sold the box set and movie to a friend for $50 because I never wanted to watch it again.... which is to say I totally ripped him off

Topic Officially Derailed!

Usually, if someone tells me some series is good I tell them to let me borrow it first. But in that, I saw Boogiepop Phantom, which is awesome. I also had a good feeling about Noir at one point, and I was right

I didn't think the Ghost in the Shell movie was that bad ... horribly different from the manga, but as a stand alone film, its fine ... moves a little slow though. However, I guess Oshii is gearing up to make a second film, staying truer to the manga this time.

I also prefer anime which isn't just shoot 'em up action. Stuff that has real depth is best, since it is something you won't get sick of easily. I mean, action gets old once you've memorized the movements just from seeing the sequence so many times. (Movies are the same way). Even the best action flicks have enough story behind them to back it up and make them interesting ... this thread is now completely derailed and burning in flames ... with no survivors.

I liked the GITS movie, but most people seem to agree that the TV show is better and closer to the manga. The new movie, from the previews I have seen, is going to be quite sweet. It is set to be released in US theatres this Fall, and they are already expecting it to win a lot of awards for its animation, which is mindblowing.

Noir is really good, too. Boogiepop, I really need to finish. It's soooo slow at first, but it's intriguing as well. I kinda want to watch it with someone, too, so I'll have someone to discuss it with lol.

If you like stuff like Boogiepop and Lain, there's a new show coming out by the guy that did Lain, Texhnolyze. I've only watched the first episode, but it's totally bizarre and fascinating.

Yeah, Boogiepop Phantom takes about 8 episodes to make sense, since there isn't even a main character until then (sort of). I didn't know Watanabe was onto another series, that's awesome. Oh, also, another reason why Boogiepop is sort of weird is because the anime series is like a very small piece of the manga, taken from the middle of the entire plot line, but it turns out to be really cool, and the name eventually makes sense.

Please don't confuse well done animation with a 'cartoon'.

Cartoon, implies 'for children' which is DEFINATLY not the case for what we were talking about ... I wouldn't want my kids watching Ghost in the Shell until they were older (if I had any), since it has massive amounts of gore and violence, not to mention nudity ... and all at the same time at points.

And yes, it is something you can argue over, how is it any different when arguing over films? Does it make the subject matter minute simply because the medium has changed to animation? No.

It's the same as someone writing a novel, or directing a film (or play), it has some meaning. No medium in the entertainment industry has no relevance and is something that should be regarded as remedial. Even cartoons have meaning (Watch interviews with Chuck Jones ... He put a hell of a lot of himself into the characters he created).

Not that I'm lashing out at you, Orph. I'm just tired of hearing people (in general) belittle a form of expression and entertainment because of a stereotype (I hear it all the time regarding comic books and anime).

call it ignorant jinx, or nothing at all.. dumb is what you said.. there is adult entertainment, and child entertainment, be it gaming, or video.

if i confused your cartoons with anything other than cartoons, it was due to ignorance..

next time.. think before you be an asshole, i think my question was innocent and valid.

you owe me an apology, cause THIS is EXACTLY how misunderstandings and flames occur, when people call people dumb.

i still say, my comment was innocent, and worded as such.

i say dumb s**t all the time around here, i do not demand apologies every day, this situation is different because the topic doesn't have knowledge stemming from both parties, i asked a question, it was NOT a dumb one.

Orph, I think what he was getting at was that in your question you looked down upon this form of entertainment (that is the way it came off).

And it was rather offensive to be honest. I don't think your question was dumb, however, and no offense, I do think it was rather arrogant.

It would be the same if you were talking to someone, 'debating', which is a better video game: HL or Hitman, for example, and some other person coming up and saying:

"excuse me, but you guys are not seriously debating the value of video games are you???"

I mean, you'd probably take offense in some way or another. Imagine if it was your job or something as such. (Also, I know your question seems out of context here, but it did when you asked it as well).

I'm not picking on your or anything, but that was just how I perceived your question, as I'm sure Jinx did.

jinx, knows me longer, i expect more from him than you, tis why i omitted you from this discussion.

you used the word "probably" take offense.. the answer truly would read, i would not find offense at all.. my wife tells me daily how childish pc games are.. i take no notice.

jinx on the other hand, was being an ass..but there again, i know jinx and its second nature to him..

my claim of ignorance is valid, and i feel it prudent in this situation.

i insist on this distinction, and as such it warrants an apology.

you and jinx, just better be glad i like you so much else i might have taken you up on this suggestion

jinxy is one of my favored, tis why i get so annoyed when he applies his idiocy toward me.. he should, by now, recognize when i am being rude, and when i am indeed ignorant and asking a legit question..

go back, re-read my first comment, with your newly acquired knowledge of my ignorance, between the distinctions of animated art.

then tell me if i was being rude or not... till then this discussion is moot, and not worthy of further discussion.
