<DIV>While i am playing multiplayer the game freezes for a couple of seconds, and when it restarts the weapons i have flash up in the right as if i have just picked them all up.I also see a dead body or two fall in my vicinty when it unfreezes too.I have checked other stuff like my connection, and my P.C has been defragged recently, and i have no viruses(i think). Is there a console command maybe?which will calm it down a bit.Oh it doesnt do it on halo,C.O.D,and any other game i play online.

768 ram
128mb geforce 4200 ti 8xagp
120gb ram
512k broadband connection(wannado)

process of elimination:

1) sounds like a software clash issue to me, run MSCONFIG and turn off everything. reboot and see if problem persists. if its gone, turn on only what you need (which should be almost nothing) until problem returns.

2) driver issues, have you gotten newest?

3) DX? issues, what version of DX are you using?

4) does it occure in singleplayer as well?

cheers for the advice orpheos.i went and turned off everything apart from my avg and norton.i got the beta driver off valve for my graphics card, and i have the latest dx,number 9 i think.Singleplayer works fine apart from the stuttering when loading levels.Multiplayer was still screwed after i done all that.Anything else i can do,i would really apprectite any other ideas.

wanadoo = freeserve? (ADSL?)

might be a phone line issue, sounds like some form of extreme network screwing (ie lag related to say, noise on the line)

disable both anti-virus scanners, at least temporarily.

try running the game without them.

avg, it screwed with me badly, but that may have been a local incident.

if you need the protection that badly that you run two scanners, you might consider altering your habits online.

i don't have any running, i do a scan weekly with "housecall"

Having two anti-virus programs installed, or at least running actively at the same time, is a big no-no. AV programs are pretty invasive, and they can conflict with each other :/ If you need more protection, focus on getting a firewall and getting good anti-spyware protection. If you want more anti-virus checking, run Panda Activescan and/or Trend Micro's scans from their websites once a week, they are free.

I think gwil is right, my m8 had something like that, and when he got new internet (2mbit xs4all) it was over.

so i think gwil is right, it might be noise on the line, or some sort of extreme lagging,

but it could be that your ram is not working properly, my css used to do all kinds of weird stuff even if i had a ping of like 12, then i bought some new ram and it was over, and i onlt have 256 mb sdram and a realy outdated pc (ge force 2 etc.)

btw, use Adaware SE and spybot S&D, instead of Housecall, they're much more efficient.

really, how? the first two are spyware programs, and the last one is an AV program. how can the first two be more efficient?
trends housecall has served me just fine ever since lep turned me on to it years ago.

Adaware and Spybot don't scan for Viruses...
My personal recommendations would be Webroot Spysweeper (if you have money) Adaware if you don't...and using either just AVG, or just Avast Home version (free.) I don't know much about firewall programs anymore as I have a hardware one now.

Can someone explain to me the logic of having virus protection on 24/7? It seems to me like a waste of computer resources, especially given how rarely I've gotten viruses (once in 11 years). Is it really that hard to not open and run executable files you get from spam mail?

two possibilities i can think of.
1) it is.
2) you need to set your bios to accept a card of that type.

in your BIOS in soem "advanced settings" or another, you will find "Video Aperture" or something similar. Set this as high as it will go, usually 256. my bet is that it's set at 64!

You got disconnected and reconnected very quickly. Check your network connection. (My PSU connection was like that once, and my computer was continually rebooting. Very annoying!)
