Did anyone else know that Team Fortress was originally a Quake 1 mod? It's nearly ten years old now.

They've completed two weapon skins? Wait, back up a second. Can this be for real?

Yo stock sarcastic response people, you do realise the of course the
mod has been established in the past few months, and is trying to
emulate pre TF 1.5 gameplay - and has nothing to do with any other TFC
product that's been developed for the last 6 years.
If you're not interested/dont like TC don't scoff  It's early days and isn't supposed to be TF2..

i got the feeling tf 2 is gunna be a flop like cs source, and that they might upgrade it later, i think however that fortress forever will be good , becouse it's not done by valve

I really don't trust Valve on TFC2.
Fortress Forever will be great, especially with Defrag in the lead. (I've been using his crosshairs for 2 years  )

i've played cs source and it's realy crap compared to cs 1.6 and 1.5 , they just switched gameplay with graphics in my pinion, and i think they will be doing the same with tf 2

It was more a reference that there has been nothing in a TF world for 6
years. So my interest has waned a lot. If this does pan out and
refreshes the game then I'm all for it.

Biopulse CS:S comment-
ITS THE EXACT SAME GAME! Lol... theres no change between 1.5 and CS:S apart from graphics, and for some bizarre reason most people can't cope and have become crap. Me however- I've become way better.

I wouldn't quite call it a flop, but it definitely isn't a big
success. And its the small changes that people don't like.
A bunch of little changes that lower the fun aspect of the game, lower
the fun aspect of the game.
Plus for a while, only noobs played cs:s, although after hl2 hit the
shelves not just the e-shelves, that was decreased somewhat, but still
not eradicated.

I found all the changes they made to make it a better calibre game, it
just in principle isn't better for the ones who just want to kill
stuff, which is the general mentality of a lot of games. (Why bother
with newer games even if that's all you want?)

Guys, if you don't like/play TFC then this isn't the mod for you - it's
being designed with the old TFC communities in mind - people who
enjoy bh'ing, concing and strict clan rules..
If you don't like, or didn't like TFC you aren't going to like
something that tries to emulate how it used to be. Go play another
mod or stop bashing it, because it seems quite a lot of people are
missing the point of what the team is trying to create

its natural to complain. but i concur, i see no reason to cry about a mod you don't have to install or play if you don't want to.
i still think however that stupid people are fair game, so watch yourselves stupid people.

Snipers in clan matches - doesn't bother me, most of the time like you
say you can get round them, and once you get past that sniper (ie most
of the time) you only have 3 defenders to attack then. It's more a
waste of time for the team who has them!
Offy HW - No, no, no no no no no and no. This is wrong in so many ways,
and decent defence can easily outdm the slow ass HW. Only viable with
bunnyhopping which of course was taken out. Waste of an attacker and a waste of time.
Backtracking/midfield fire - pointless, doesnt achieve anything, starts
arguments - best to keep those guns aimed at the floor in NML.
Flag carrier shooting.. hahaha - yes, i think this should be allowed
(it is for the most part I believe) - we were at 40-40 in an NTFCL
match just the other night (alchimy_l) - i managed to get their flag
out of the FR and to another attackers, taking us to 50-40.
While all this was going on, the rest of offy and most of defence was
out on the bridge having an absolutely huge ruckus with the other team
trying to stop them moving our flag any further. With about 50 seconds
on the clock it really did get close, but us doing that saved us the
win (which we deserved tbh)
edit: taking a lookski at the vid now force.. havent seen a TFC avi in YEARS. Retro

I suppose you've seen the [BC] and [BAD] movies ? They all rocked, the music ?nd the in-game footage was class.
Another good one is "Beyond", (done by Caelium). It mostly features concs and rocketjumps, but pretty awesome ones.
We once capped three times in the last two minutes. It was a draw on mortality (30-30), so we had to get it all on shutdown_l. Man, that was awesome. We just didn't even touch the flag before those last 2 minutes, and suddenly everything worked out. Pure evil fun.

I miss playing TFC with a serious clan. It was so frustrating but so much fun. Too bad that they changed the demoman just enough to make me suck at it, causing me to lose interest and lose all my skills...
But when I played I never thought about these things. If you want to screw yourself over then go right ahead and backtrack. Same with tracking the flag carrier all over the map (assuming they don't just conc all over the place like a good player would). I don't see why anyone would complain about offensive HWG or snipers... there were no such restrictions when the original game came out, why would clanners want to force such pointless restrictions? Then again they are probably the same people who want to be able to conc across the entire length of well with one grenade and find every little thing to bitch about when they lose a match :/

Who can conc deck 2 deck on 2fort ? Me !
And those rules aren't pointless. If you're allowed to backtrack, some pretty lame things might happen. All the action might be happening midfield, and everyone will just spam nades.
Do you guys use a BH script, or just ... the "natural" way ?

Last time I checked if you can destroy the offense before they enter the base your defense will be that much better. Players near the middle of the map serve as the first and last lines of defense, and I think we all know that if the flag gets out of the base you're pretty much screwed. Having defensive players on the ramparts can also quickly switch to offense if say the flag carrier dies right outside the enemy base or is under fire. All these dumb restrictions are a huge turn off, especially when they are enforced all you really need to win against all but the best clans is two excellent medics who can conc anywhere and everywhere. I always thought the focus of TFC was where and how you deploy the forces at your disposal, not small unit tactics.

Anyone who thinks a HW guy even stands chance against a good defence squad really needs a good beating. HW guys are particularly vulnerable to Engineers' EMP grenades, 'cause they have about a hundred shells and they just go boom. Another thing to note is that they can't move when using the Gatling Gun, which is their only really good weapon (aside from grenades). Summary: Offensive HW guys are very likely to get flattened.

Okay I just tested this... Sorry, it turns out he can move very, very, slowly. Way back, I tried moving with the Gatling Gun and it looked like he wasn't moving at all... Sorry.
Either way, he's a sitting duck.
