I was thinking that de_thunder would be a great map in Source.. now that you can do the great sky mapping.
My skills are no where ready to tackle a project like that, but I would be willing to help any one who would be.
if I remember correctly de_thunder was the map that was a dam in the mountains.

oh man, de_foption brings back memories...
Those maps were in the good times of CS, after all the hackers started to go away and before all the fy_maps came along.
I miss maps like cs_747, Thunder, Militia, Siege... those maps were
real to me. Now all you see are random 3rd world mazes or
killboxes in CS. Its depressing really...

maybe, if you do all the work. I'm kinda bummed about dm_cliff
not to mention the fact that I'm working on Rogue Threat and another (I
hope better) DM map.
but I can always lend a hand.

Hahah fair enough.
Good luck with Rogue Threat by the way! I saw you on their forum.
As for dm_cliff... if it's not going to work out the way you had
hoped... maybe you can consider keeping the good parts and remaking
it? Or starting from scratch? Or just using it as a
learning experience and moving on? Either way I'm downloading it
now to give you some feedback in your thread.
To get this thread back on topic I think it would be nice to see more
good CS maps in production at this site. A well made CS map can
be really impressive. For example... the first time I saw the T
spawn in de_train with the little office and the dead guy... my jaw
dropped. It was such a simple idea but it looked great.

we should get a floor plan and break it up and let everyone make a few
rooms, then we all switch and "fix" the others room, then switch again
untill we can put them all together.

I am also going to try and do Seige with the APC like it used to be when it first came out. =)

So anyone willing to team up and do a section as suggested by DrGlass?

that map was OK, but needed some tweaking, i felt it was too open.
also de_dust3 has apprently been made and is available in the june issue of pc gamer.
I might take a hack at re-making militia.

I work fulltime during the summer but since its a normal 9-5 I have my
nights free to do whatever I want. No papers or assignments
hanging over me like most of the year. It's a nice feeling.

First step... layout.
A week from now I'll be all done with exams and can start coming up
with a hopefully good and balanced layout, but you're welcome to get
started right away and if you come up with something we can just go
with that.
CS or DE?
DE is the more popular of the two (and the more interesting) so I vote DE.

Well the orignal was a hostage rescue, cs_thunder. But we can turn it into a bomb defusal, de_thunder. That would be cool and make for a better experiance, heck makes more sense anyways.. terrorist there to blow the bridge.
Bomb Site A should be outside, and the closer of the two, because it would be out in the open and harder to plant.. Bomb Site B could be in the generator room, farther away, but easier to defend.
We need someone who can do skyboxes, because I still have not figured that out. When I say Sky Boxes I mean the kind with the terrain and all that included in them. I have tried the one here in the Tutorial section, but I dont understand it all that well.
As far as a layout goes, I have a few over-heads and some pictures of the original to go by. But I am not good at mapping from a pre-generated form, I tend to let the map tell me where it wants to go.. yeah I get the basics and what I am aiming for, but along the way the map tells me what it needs.
This should be fun.

Do you think we should keep the original layout or just take the
general idea of a dam location and make our own layout with our own
name for the map?
I would kind of like just doing our own map, but set in the same type of place as cs_thunder.

OK I found a siege map for source, well a friend did and he sent it to me, if anyone needs it let me know..
As for Thunder, Yeah I think go with the basic idea, but expand on it and make it our own. There was a map in Call of Duty I think it was that was a damn, and they did a fantastic job on it. Besides I like the idea of a bomb map. ( DE )
Maybe we can make it more like the hoover damn in Las Vegas?
Yeah DrGlass we sure could use your help on it. Thanks.

I loved Thunder. So much ambience for a mostly empty map. You ever watch a good set of t's hole up in the hostage room? The vent was perhaps a tad too random, but otherwise it was a quality hostage map with a unique layout and a surprisingly strong arena for a scout user.

Yeah I agree. It was pretty uncommon for hostage rooms to be so
large and so open. I liked that. I would sit on top of one
of the data machines with an AK until the cows came home.

I spent about 30 minutes pulling some images off of google and I think
we will have enough to get started. I've tracked down cs_thunder
and am currently installing HL and CS so I can give it a run around and
I'll take a bunch of screenshots as soon as I can.

Or you could just decompile the map so you get the same scales and layouts and just completely rebuild it...

I think we're not going to do a rebuild. Maybe just take the dam
location and run with it. I wanted to take some screenshots to
see if we could draw from certain locations as inspiration.

That way you get a feel from the old map and say ahh I remember this section.. but have a new experiance when playing it.
