I got it today at 10am, finished reading in 10pm  (counting in a trip to McDonald's)

And I say it was a BLAST! A real good book. I didn't like that a character died... he was perhaps most people's favourite...

Anyway, what do you think about the book? I loved it and I strongly advise everyone to read it...

I bought the book this morning for $17.99.

I am not calling you an outright fibber, but.. Reading a book that large in 12 hours is nigh on impossible.

However, since you have nothing to gain, or lose by saying so..

I am still at the beginning. The Prime Minister is a bit upset with Fudge ATM.

lol... i bought the book that had the "Advanced Potion Making" book on the cover... it had only 607 pages total, so...

It was so: I got the book somewhat in 10 am, got home and started
reading 10:30. Then I went to McDonals in about 2, got back home like
2:35 (it is only what... 10 minutes away?) - the line was long :-P lots
of people on such a good day. Then came back and eat and read the book
altogether (i can't eat without something aside, like a book or a
movie). I then took a break and played 10 minutes or so a piano, just
for cooling down.

And well... a bit before 10pm i finished reading...

so... 12 hours would be from 10 to 10, but - let us count some bits down here.

so - macdonalds + piano cut down 1 hour. And since i arrived back home 10:30, it will be another half an hour less.

So - 10 1/2 hours total... not bad, huh?

anyways, a bit more than a minute it takes me to read a page, that's
true  I've always been a good reader (been reading since i was like
what..? 3?)

Everyone reads at different speeds. 600 pages in 10 or 12 hours is not impossible.

The human mind reads as it talks out loud. Reading a 600 page book in that short a span is not impossible, but absorbing it all.. is.

You can argue all you want, but the mind cannot absorb words at that rate with any measure of retention.I have been reading nearly 40 years. I am not fast by any definition. Its recreation for me, not a chore.

Anywho's, I have friends who can read 600 pages a day so yeah, I have seen it done. However, specific details are not what they tell you when you ask "well, how'd you like it?"

Lol? I looked at hpana for the questions about HBP and could answer most of them

And i could read even faster if I was required to

By the way... it should be even more impossible since english is not my
native language and i had really re-read several places, but that did
not decrease my reading speed!

I am telling you again, I am sufficient to read a book at such rate and
remember most of it as if you were reading 4 pages of A4 in 1 hour
(re-reading it all the times)

I daresay I have a some sort of a gift not everyone have... not a
privilege, a gift, to read fast and memorize most of it. Go ahead,
ask something, I'll try to answer (and I'll give an Unbreakable Vow i
won't look in the book  )

Hey, I am a big Potter fan, so please don't post any spoiler on this thread (or anywhere at the Pit). If you do, please use the spoiler font.

I plan to read it when I get a chance. It's a bit difficult when I am working fourteen hours a day on the weekend.

Where did you buy the book from, Orph? $18 is a good deal.

there's something weird going on here: i've read all of the HP books
but there's just something i'm missing here. At the beginning of book 6
it mentions mrs.Figg as a TEACHER at Hogwarts. Is this a mistake since
she appears uncapable of doing magic in book 5?)

I for one would rather not hear the ending but, it would not ruin my read if it slipped out.. However, since many have voiced concerns, I would advise people to not comment about "Key" characters at least..

No, the one written by fan is NOT original 5th. This "version" of HBP was only a fanfiction.

The 6th book didn't actually quite look like Rowling's style at some places... :S

For instance, nobody expected for ********* to die, and even being
killed by *****!!! And nobody expected for ********* to actually
sustain injuries! Injuries what would make *** weak... so strong ***
has always been!

here.

This book is truly beginning in left field.. Usually it starts with Potter or his aunt/uncle.. So far, nada.

Tis an interesting read thus far however, so the alternate route is not harming it any.

No. If you remember well, The Goblet of Fire was also not started with

Seconded! I read at about 2 pages per minute for recreational reading. Slower for technical stuff like textbooks, and faster for easy reading. Some people I know can read a LOT faster then that. The trick is teaching yourself not to sound out the words in your mind, as that is the natural thing to do and it slows you down tremendously. I used to read at .5-1 pages per minute, and at the time I thought that it was the fastest speed that my mind could comprehend material. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that was not true. I think a lot of people underestimate their ability to read quickly, and that mental block stops them from reading faster.

$17.99 for a book? Your kidding, right? Usually books cost like ?4.99 ($8). $17.99 is a ripoff. And it is possible to read a book like that in 12 hours. Lep for instance is an insanely fast reader- he reads huge books in a day or 2, and thats in less than 12 hours.

I read the whole of Michael Critons (however you spell it) "Sphere" in about 7 hours in 1 sitting, thats about 500 pages, and I tend to read a book every 3 years or so  Oh and I read out the words in my head, tell it more like an extended film.

I have to say the book was alot better than the film, but thats not to say the film wasn't good, I thought it was a great film.

Well, I am an old school reader and I read slowly by any standard.

If you can do so faster, here's your cookie. I read 3.5 chapters yesterday and enjoyed them just as much as anyone.

If the author of this thread doesn't mind to much, I would like to commandeer this thread for a discussion:

This is predominantly for the people who have not read book six yet but, if the discussed items travel speculatively into book 7 tis cool too.

Speculations on my part:
 • Snape and Potter will come to terms and stop sniping each other.
 • Hermione and Ron will pair up. Possibly marry.
 • Dumbledore will likely sacrifice himself in a spell battle with Voldemort to save Harry from psychological damage. So far, Harry has never "killed"
Any other theories? Discuss-

His sarcasm is hardly destructive now isn't it. However his taking cheap shots at Harry by employing his teachers position is hardly professional. My comment however stems from his grades. He has always done poorly in Snapes classes. In fact he has yet to complete a potion successfully to my knowledge, yet.. (/me will not ruin it by commenting on the report card at this time)

Lol.. I can tell you two of your theories are unable to be fulfilled
Since for two very simple reasons. Read the book till the end and
you'll see what I mean  (especially the chapter they are going after
a Horcrux).

Anyway, the second theory is quite possible. I think also that Ginny
and Harry are going to pair up (not much a spoiler, but they two are
snogging nearing the end  ).

*Harry and Snape will have a final duel before his fight with You-know-who.

*Harry will finally learn to close his mind (Occlumens) so he can use
Sectumsempra on Snape. Afterall... it is a non-verbal spell.

*Draco will come over to right side and perhaps fights Snape. (just a
theory, this or the one before this). Afterall... Draco did not feel
this was right, he couldn't fulfill his mission so Snape had to do it
for him.

*Harry will pass his Apparition examination and becomes an Animagus.

*Tonks and Lupin are going to marry (aswell as Phlegm and Bill).

*Bill is going to heal completely and NOT become a werewolf.

*Harry will die WITH Voldemort. Neither of them will survive.

*Something awesome is going to happen when Harry and Voldemort fight
and die together, which kills all the Death Eaters. Perhaps something
like an Explosion, when Bad meets Good.
*Dumbledore will return as a ghost or as a painting and advises Harry.
*Harry will find a way to communicate with Sirius.

*Harry tells Voldemort what the Prophecy actually was all about.

*Harry inherits Dumbledore's Pensieve.

*When fighting Voldemort, Harry finds the Dumbledore from his heart which helps him beat Voldemort.

I know, it contained quite a few spoilers from book 6, but you'll live
 I've marked the worst one of them. I still do not accept that
character died! ** Couldn't have! No way! Nobody really expected that!

Dude, I posted in the hopes of getting "theories"

You posted at least one spoiler.. ( more i suppose )

You were asked to not do so.. BLACK them out before anyone else reads this.

Sorry, I thought
tags are going to black out automatically, like in hl2world  my bad

hope it didn't spoil everything

Anyway, that was really the biggest spoiler, but I blacked it out now,
so, nonetheless nothing more should be spoilers. They are actually only
theories.

I have my suspicions about Harry and Ginny but, this author has no sense when it comes to "birds and bees"

A school full of sexually mature people and no "Doctor" playing at all? Hell, Hermione spends 10 months a year at school and a month and a half at the burrow, that leaves no home life at all... What parents would allow that?

If its so easy to get out of the common rooms of each house, how much easier would it be to fraternize?

Some parts of this story are more fiction than magic ever was.

Myrk, the book is hardback, and that's cheap for a hard back book. Most of them are anywhere from $25 to $32 (US). Rip off when considering they haven't changed anything from the HB printings of four years ago when they were $18 or so. Not to mention 1st edition hard backs usually have ass face paper that isn't cut properly.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I thought Hermione and Ron were going out with each other already? I'm sure they are Orph.

Think again. I have read/listened to all five. Nothin official has been proclaimed by either. They do however get really annoyed when the other does particular things. You'd think they were already married.

I have noticed an oddity and /me wonders if its an Americanized thing. All the Potter books I have bought have American distances and measures. There are no metrics anyplace in my books. The locations are still British enough I suppose, considering I wouldn't recognize a false location if my life depended on it but, why are the measurements all in SAE?

Anyone else notice this?

NOTE: SAE = Standard American Equivalent

most of britain, orph, still use miles for long distances. theres a mixture of metric and SAE over here so rowling could just be using what she is used to.

oh and a while ago they used SAE but switched over to metric some time.

Agreed, as much as I think the books suck, not everyone wants spoilers. Black it out windows.
