learning time process. This is my first map release. I released the map
about 5 days ago, everyone has enjoyed the map so far, and I have heard
no negative commants. There will be a v2 in probebly a week or so.
Sorry I dont have any screen shoots, You can check out the map first if
you would like on my servers...

Nice that people like it, but if you want people here to play the map,
post screenshots. It's the first impression people get and it's an
important factor. If you don't care, we won't either...

Next map, make a ZIP file with your BSP file, and a small text file giving some backround info on the map. (who made it, and borrowed work, how to install, etc...)

Whats wierd about that though? It says in the description there will be a "version 2", so I guess this is kinda a beta release.

By my count, he just shot himself in the foot with this comment.

People, when will you learn that You are the one asking and We are the ones who might, or might not give.

Sad... It makes you wonder what mindset these people are used to before they come to this site.

Lots of people like boxes too, so excuse us if we decide for ourselves. We have less reason to see it as a great map than you obviously do.

You will recieve honest feedback, in spite of your beginning on the wrong foot.

Well my point is you will ethier have to take my word for it,(witch I'm
sure means nothing to you...lol) Or you will have to wait. end of
story. Its here as an early release for the people that care to try NEW
custom maps on thier server.

Agreed.

What if Ford went to a client with no pictures of their new car, all
they said is "buy it now, lots of people drive it, its already out in
two states!"

It is your problem to make us want to play this map, I would download
it, but becuase you dont even take the time to post 3 screen shots
(this site even lets you upload pictures!!) how can I or anyone trust
that you didn't put the same effort into your map?

If alot of people play something, that doesn't say anything.
Filter killbox next time you play hl2... there are lots of people out
there who dont know what a good map really is. Here on snarkpit
we tend to grade you on the craftsmenship of your map, not how it plays.

So find 3 areas of your map, press F5 and take 4 minutes to give us some content.

No insult to this author. I am sure that he is smart enough to understand that when I say "People have told us 1,000's of times that their map is this or that, we are gun shy. The bigger the boast, the less interesting it sounds'

Sorry if thats not exactly what you wanted to hear but there you are. We do not fault your reasons for NOT posting screens at this time. What we are doing however is informing you that IF you want our input, we are more apt to comply if you cater to OUR wants.

We have nothing to lose, you have everything to gain. Snarkpits record for taking a mapper to new levels of excellence is unparalleled.

I found out recently that that comment may sound "pretentious"

Cool word really. Doesn't fit Snarkpit, but I am definitely going to remember it.

Fair enough.. I had no idea the site allowed you to upload pics, would
have been nice if someone had told me sooner. The reson I said I dont want to
add screenshoots this time is cause I thought I would have to send them
to someone to put on thier webspace, and I'm sure he is busy with other stuff. and as
for the "when will you people learn" comment from orpheus, Its my first time here man, and my
first map! Its not like I'm a regular to these forums, I just
download the maps this site has to offer. Did not realize you guys stick to such a strick pollocy of map downloads here

I will look into adding some sceenshoots shortly...

Oh yeah we have people who troll this site regularly looking for material to steal.

As for posting screens, thats what those big blank spots in the upload page said that you didn't read. :heee:

My mistake, I have not slept more than 7 hours in the last 3 days so I'm a little out of it to say the least....lol

EDIT: Well I tried a couple times now to update and add the screen's but It
seemed to be working them brings me to a white page, I'll try again
later, no telling weter it will work then or not. Also this map dose
support 13 players without lag. Ran very smooth with 13 but have not
seen higher yet. and it dose not crash anyone out from what I have seen so far.

When you are uploading screenshots, make sure they aren't too large in
file size. Use a program such as photoshop or paint shop pro (or worst
case scenario, microsoft paint) to save them as jpgs, and keep the file
size below 100k (perfectly possible while still retaining quality).
Sorry to force loads of limitations on you and whatnot, but most of us
have been here a while and have grown fed up of no screenshot maps, or
maps with 500k pictures posted up. Its in your favour to "pander to the
masses" when it comes to websites like this - the easier you make it
for people to comment on your level, the more comments you will
recieve. Don't worry about overlooking features of the website from the
off - we realise its a fairly large and daunting place with more to
offer than most places, so its only natural not to notice some things
the first time around

set your jpeg_quality to 60 in game so you dont have to do anything to them, they will be saved compressed!

There is a site problem thread in the general banter forum if you have problems too.

Thank You....

I tried again this morning and took screens with the jpeg quality
to 60
and its still bringing me to a white page when it seems like its
working, but is not. I will try again later today and possable
tommrow morning, If I cant get them to upload I'm sorry but you will
just have to wait for the full version to see screen's, it should be
done in less than a week anyways. and sorry for saying "trust me you
will like it" cause I know not everyone will like it, there is no map
ever made that EVERYONE likes. It dose not have a theme to the map or
anything. Like I said this is my first map, and my first hl2 dm room
tutorial is what started me with the first room. So basicly this was my
fisrt even BOXED room...heh But I want to STRESS... "ITS NO FREAKIN
KILLBOX" But I put a lot of time into this map and I think some of
you will enjoy the design for what it is even though it dose not have a
theme. My next map will be based on a paintball filed.

Going off the screens thoughtfully posted by Juim (Top stuff mate), you might need to consider using more than 4
textures, adding more detail, adding lighting that is interesting and
makes sense, and decals that suit the setting, whatever it might be.

Generally though a solid first release, you've managed to dodge most of
the pitfalls, eg full bright, leaks, giant box full of exploding props,
so well done for that, and as plain as the map might be, generally the
brush work seems tidy and some layout is evident. Of course without
playing I can't be entirely sure, but at this moment I don't have
enough time to scratch myself, let alone download and critique maps  .

Most of the stuff mentioned above are things you will learn to develope
as you get more experience, and if you meet us half way and can manage
not to piss everyone off, you've come to the right place to get that
experience. We might seem a bit blunt, but at least you know we will
always give a helpful and honest assessment of your work.

Current Verdict: Not the best map around, despite what your friends
might say, but a good and solid first release to have under your belt
 .

snowforskate I think you got a bit big headed :-/ The people who have been telling its good obviously don't map... I suggest taking advice given on the site before you snap back (like many people do). Th criticism that will follow is to help you become better.

LMAO Myrk... I'll admit it aint the best for a first map but I
thought I did good enough. just cause you dont like it... and I know I
cant please everybody but Me and my clan like the map and
honestly
thats all that matters to me.

I appreciate the sugestions to make it
better I added more variety of textures and am planning to add
all stairs instead of slopes, I know the slopes look tacky.

I was not
looking to get critiqued on my map but like I said I appreciate the suggestions to make better.
