Okay, There is something that happens all the time that I have been thinking about, and I can't, for the life of me, think of ANY reason as to WHY it happens. I figured maybe one of you other famous internet personalities would know.

Today I downloaded a file on KaZaA. It was the latest episode of Family Guy. I was downloading it because I missed it on TV. After I had wasted about 6 hours of download time and the file was done, I opened it and it was an episode of Southpark.

My question is this: why do people do that? Why do they name it Family Guy, When it's CLEARLY southpark. It's not like it's an accident, coz if you check for other files from that user he has LOTS of things disguised as something completely different. Is there any real reason that this happens, or is it a punk-ass way of wasting everyone's time, like a virus?

And what's with the blank music files or the ones that start screeching after 30 seconds?!?!?
I tried sniffing coke, but the ice cubes kept getting stuck in my nose.

I can't tell you about the videos, but the music like that is sometimes
from music industry peeps who put crap like that up so people will get
annoyed and not download music from that band. Generally speaking. The
same thing might be with the videos, but eh, I dunno.

I figured the "disguised" videos and software was the "Jokes on you" stuff and the s**tty music files are RIAA arseholes

Last I remember on Kazaa, every application you downloaded was NHL 2001.

Perhaps they want to share thing without others downloading it.

If I
were you I'd rather download such things from torrent sites.

Sometimes it's lazy file labeling, other times it's because certain words trigger warning flags (Metallica was traded as Metalliska for a while when they were fighting Napster), other times it is indeed a tactic meant to piss people off. Basically, it's a price you're going to have to pay if you use a mainstream peer-to-peer network at this point in time.

Frankly, I'd be scared to death to show my face on KaZaA at this point. The industries been a little tepid in lawsuits lately - I think we're in a calm before a storm. And make no mistake, KaZaA will be the prime target.

Easy: The majority of people online are assholes.

Or, they're suffering the same question you are and are too kind to stop sharing their files.

Or maybe they're just assholes?

I figure people just really like one thing, and they want to make some
kind of mark on the world so they share, south park in this case, under
diffrent names so no matter what people download it will be south park.

Ok in the world of downloading there are bastards then deleters. Deleters come in 2 forms- personal because they feel its morally wrong, and company hired. They go around deleting 1 part of a rar file so you spend a week downloading 4gb's of a DVD then find its missing 1 part. The bastards also come as company hired and personal. Its annoying because it spreads quickly :-/

On the note of family guy and non authentic downloads- Family Guy movie is coming out soon....

Its all about bittorrent... Get the Azureus client and check out the pirate bay. If you are behind a harwdare firewall, port-forward ports 6801 - to around 6999 (the more ports you open the more connections you can make). If you don't do the port-forwarding/virtual server, your downloads will be incredibly slow. Otherwise I've found BT to be blazingly fast.

I use G3 torrent. I've heard it interferes with IE though ... no sweat off my sack.
It also allows you to mask yourself as using other clients. Since some people are douches and only let people using Azureus, or some other client, download their stuff.
