Hello,

I'm starting at the University Of
Leuven
this week to get my Engineering degree in Computer
Sciences. (whoa, that sounds ... cool.)

The computer-delivery thing where I ordered my new computer is a little
slow, so I haven't got it yet. I'm taking a laptop to Leuven now. The
internet connection in our rooms is not installed yet, but we're going
to arrange that this week. It won't be very fast, so you will not see
me here a lot on weekdays. (I'll try, though !)

Greetz,

Have fun in the computer labs. You'll be spending a lot of time there. Make sure to go, "what the f**k" when you try using a Solaris machine, if they have them.

I strongly suggest getting building access passes if the university offers it. You'll be spending many late nights there (They usually grade dependant on the compiler)

It should be cool. Is is set up there to split the degree before the masters process? (Such as, instead of proceeding to do a Masters in Software Engineering, do you start out studying that field?)

Just curious.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Enjoy your time in college Forceflow. There's nothing quite like it.

In case you're looking for advice from a nobody: try getting into
research programs and labs early on. It counts for a lot to have this
kind of experience outside of your curriculum requirements. Don't get
stuck on the "hottest" technologies and all that.

And don't get too drunk.

Ok, I got internet working, but it's still unstable and dodgy.

First week at university was hell. The teaching tempo is very high
compared to secondary, and we have to do all kinds of stuff
simultanuously. Project there, exercises there, there and everywhere !

It's fun to manage all of your time, although I haven't come to going out or doing anything really fun yet.
