Recently, we playtested the alpha version of my latest HL2DM map,
mudanchee, with
BlisTer, AnarkiNet, ReNo and some others. We all agreed it was pretty
much fun but the map suffered somewhat from my random player spawn
placement, and people got stuck now and then.

So, I fixed most of these problems now and added some new prop models
and stuff, I tweaked the layout somewhat and added a few gimmicks and
hidden goodies.

The map is uploaded to the server but since the last playtest was
organized pretty quick and all, I think it's better to settle a time
with those that like to participate. The server is down for the moment
though so I can't playtest immediatly anyway.

Anyone interested, and what day/time suits you best? I think a play on
friday evening (around 19:00 GMT) could be good, but any suggestions
are welcome.

PS: Anyone who doesn't have the map yet can download it from it's
profile, linked above in this post. It's still rough - this playtest is
meant to check some changes to the layout - but it's getting there.

Well I had quick stroll through it and it looks cool so far. I'm loving
the displacement work. One major no-no, though: a dm map has to be easy
to navigate in order to have sustained and smooth action. The map is
too dark IMO. And some ambient sounds like the sound of distant dripping water and such would be cool.

Hmm, so I'd better change the lighting before the playtest...

Anyway, anyone who's up for scheduling a test, or is it better to just
get it going once we're on IRC with a bunch and ReNo can put it into
the rotation?

A rough time might be a good idea, but judging by the difficulty I had
in scheduling our old HL2DM clan matches, I dunno if it will have much
success that way  When did we do the last test? It was a good time,
both for having a few pitter's and some randoms.

Last test... wasn't that on a saturday or friday evening? I dunno, but
it worked nice. I thought some more snarkpitters could be interested so
I started a thread, but maybe we'll just do it the old way again.
Having some random players isn't a bad thing.

So, yeah, just friday evening then? 20:00 or such?

Heh, I had to add GMT behind that 20:00.

Is 20:00 GMT fine too? Also, ReNo, are you on IRC by that time?

EDIT: There is one, Myrk, but for announcing a playtest I felt the general board was a better place. Gets more attention.

This coming Friday I'll be at work still at that time. But it
seems like there are plenty of other Pitters who are interested.
Good luck.

Argh, I'll get back to you, I need to go find a time zone converter

Hokay... 19:00 GMT is 15:00 EST, which means that I can't do it

However, if you were to start it at 20:00 GMT, I'd be able to get there after a little bit.

So, 20:00 GMT, as intended, it will be.

If the server is up again by that time... (thanks Andrei  )

Sorry Satch, next time better. I'm sure there'll be more playtests in the future.

Andrei, its all fine and well hinting about the server coming back
online, but who are you hinting to? It seems I'm the only person active
at the moment with FTP access, but I have no idea what's wrong with the
server  I can access it fine to upload things but its not pinging for
the actual game. There doesn't seem to be any mention of problems on
the 4u-Servers webpage.

Well, it's been stuck on swamplight with 2000 latency for about 2 days
now :heee: . And often it just says that it's <not responding> .

As for the FTP system, I don't know how to nor dare to tingle with it.

Anyone else having this?

It's not stuck on a map, thats just the map that was on when you last
saw it running. For me it says its running dm_pit2...which I didn't
even know was in the rotation

Its not a problem you are having, its a problem with the server. It's
"down", but I've no idea why. I'll try emailing 4u-servers, but as I'm
not the person renting the server I dunno if I really have any power to
get anything done.
