'Twas on this day in 1980 that John Lennon was assasinated outside of
his apartment. To me, this is way more important than Pearl
Harbor. My school had a moment of silent reflection for him,
nothing about Pearl Harbor. Plus it's Jim Morrison's birthday.

Sadly, I am beginning to see definite boundaries here. Has it been that long? Can none of the present generation be thankful for ought more than waking up when they feel like it?
I understand being against war in some ways, but cannot fathom people who deny those who thought differently and actually DIED for it their honors and dues.
Sadly, we do not have any Japanese here to even have a REAL discussion over whether it made a difference in dropping those bombs or not. I doubt anyone here could even switch mindsets with a traditional Japanese in such a way as to die willingly as they do for their GOD, which in every way is how they view their Emperor.
Honestly, how can any of you condemn an act when you admit that the very act had no influences upon your present lives? I know that the act DID have an impact but the fact that you do not see it really removes you from having an educated opinion at all.
Course I figure some smart ass is going to inform me how mistaken I am but I feel that if you are allowed to make a false comment such as that then so am I. Being foolish is not only a prerogative of the young!!!
I have to say this in as stern a way as possible. "IF YOU CANNOT SEE HOW PAST WARS CHANGED YOUR LIVES TODAY, KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELVES ABOUT THE DEAD WHO GAVE SO MUCH FOR YOUR RIGHT TO NOT KNOW"
It could be worse people, we could be a society that would not even grant you the right to forget!!!

Doc, if you are going to answer a quote by being inside the quote try to make it a different color cause its hard to separate your words from theirs.
No offense, but I had to back up and read the originals.

Perhaps, but how does that alter the meaning of the statement? What exactly is sarcasm but a way to say whats on your mind without actually committing to it in any permanent way.
I would be sarcastic to if someone told me that they would rather remember a junkie than a hero. Assuming of course that we are talking about junkies and hero's.
I would rather just talk about hero's myself, but hey, thats just me.
[EDIT] I just realized that I am breaking my own rule here. This thread was about rock stars not wars. I apologize and will hereafter take my thoughts to my own thread.
Sorry guys.

For those who seem to disagree with my opinion, let me explain.
I can remember and mourn many people that I did not know that died many
years ago that I don't know the names of or anything about them, or I
can remember the man whose music I listen to every day, and who wanted
peace over war.
I vote peace and someone I know.

I know that I'm posting right after a quote orgy, but I just wanted to
point out that Pearl Harbour was one of the reasons the US joined the
war and thusly influencing many european countries, including my own (as
in we were bombed by them). It influenced me, although i'm an ocean and half a continent away. That's how I see it at least.
And I for one have the utmost respect for all soldiers who fought in the war, irrelevant of the flag they fought under.

aye, maybe if he was around 20 odd years earlier, his lovely peace songs would have convinced the world not to go to war.

I'm sure a sappy peace song would have convinced Hitler not to invade Poland.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that you can't just say
he's an asshole and deny what he's done. He wouldn't have stopped
the war...
f**k...

im curious toasty, where are you getting your info on lennon from....i too was alive then....and as i said, his biggest contribution was making the drug culture more popular in the states...personally, im not sure that would be a pride instilling point on a resume....he did however, write many a song that became synonymous with the peace movement, and that is probably his most respectable contribution.....look, my wife and i were on our honeymoon 3 days when he died, and i couldnt get her to stop crying for three more....it effected me deeply on a musical and spiritual level, from anger to tears to light depression....but....i must call them as i see them, and know them to be....
calmly bud....i really am curious.
Doc B... :dodgy:

I don't think one man can change the outlook of people in the world- we aren't that nice a race of creature. As the Terminator once said, its in human nature to destroy ourselves.
